I must say that I had my reservations when I first came across this ATV produced drama series. TVB has occupied an unassailable position in this genre forever and it does not appear its supremacy will be threatened anytime soon. That said, Central Affairs II is an okay series. The storyline while predictable, is at least interesting enough to make me keep watching. The sets are fresh and grand enough when compared to some of ATV's previous underwhelming efforts. The cast did a decent job but the female lead, Michelle Yip, seemed somewhat stiff to me. She's not bad looking and does seem capable of acting, but either the character did not really fit her or she just did not feel very comfortable with the role. The male cast is a tired lot. Not that actors like Kenneth Chan cannot act, they just don't have the charisma. When the most impressive members of the male cast are septagenerians Patrick Tse and Lo Hoi Pang, you are in trouble.
