Charmaine started her acting career in 1998 after being named second runner-up in 1997's Miss Hong Kong Beauty pageant. She was offered a contract with TVB and made her first TV appearance in Detective Investigation Files IV. Over the years, Charmaine has worked on many TV series, her most famous being Return of the Cuckoo.
After being criticized for her acting early in her career, Charmaine won the "Best Actress" and "My Favorite Female" in 2006 for her role in "Maidens's Vow". Also, in 2006 it is reported that she made over HK$7.2 million to become the highest earning TVB artist of that year.
