This is a Vietnamese review for this series so the names of the charaters and the places are in Vienamese.
This series also known as "Proud of Twins" or "Handsome Siblings"
Cast:
Dicky Cheung - Thieu Ngu Ngi: A funny guy who is very clever and has many tricks up his sleeve because he was raised in Dao Ac Nhan. Doesn't know great martial arts but still escapes problems with his brains and gadgets. He does not know his true identity and so he left Dao Ac Nhan to find out more about himself.
Overall, Dicky did very well as the silly idiot. But that seems to be the only role he plays. I guess he is just good at it. Even though Dicky plays a lot of silly characters, he is still good in the emotional parts. I mean, you can really tell that Thieu Nhu Nhi loves Tien Nhu very much. And it was really touching when Tien Nhu died, Dicky actaully had teardrops coming out. To tell you the truth, I thought he wouldn't be good on the whole emotional acting bit, but he was.
Nicholas Tse - Hoa Vo Khuyet: He was raised by the love-hating Hoa Gi Cung and so he is cold, but still the type of man any woman would fall for becuase he is a gentleman and isn't a pervert. He was sent to the tournament of Yang Biet Hac and met Tiet Tam Lan. He fell in love with her, but they have many obstacles to be together because of his main sifu, Yeu Wic, who wants to use him as revenge on the man who broke her heart Yang Phong, who is Vo Khuyet's and Thieu Ngu Ngi's father. Her plan was to make Yang Phong's sons go against each other. Another obstacle for Vo Khuyet is Ngoc Yen and her obsession over him.
Nicholas Tse did a good job as the perfect-man-yet-still-a cold person. Nicholas Tse is also the type that I would not expect to be good at the emotional type of acting but he did manage to cry, espcially in the ending scene where he cried over Thieu Ngu Nhi. Thieu Ngu Nhi was all dead inside and aging quickly and Vo Khuyet was crying over him and there were actual tears in there too (and a gigantic piece of snot, but I think that's called good acting.) Nic Tse is also good at the whole "in pain" thing. In the scene where he's in pain or whatever, he's always convincing with all his stumbles and such. Nicholas Tse really had good chemistry with Fan Bing Bing. They made a cute couple.
Fan Bing Bing - Tiet Tam Lan: She is the daughter of the leader of the kung fu world so she has a pretty high rank and is pretty rich. She is pretty naive and isn't really good at martial arts, but I guess she's nice. She is looking for her dad because he left for some trip and never came back. She met Thieu Ngu Nhi and they became friends.
Fan Bing Bing was good as Tam Lan, but it seems like she didn't have much to work with. Tam Lan's character isn't very diverse. She's just there as Vo Khuyet's lover, no spunkness or shyness or any other personality. And I don't know if Fan Bing Bing knows martial arts or anything, but the scenes where she fights kind of suck. She seemed a little off. Every swing was all weak and stuff, not that I know anything about kung fu or whatever.
Yuan Guan - Do An: She is an amazing doctor. She learned her skills from her mom, who was poisened a long time ago and so she sleeps eleven hours a day. Do An travels around China hoping to find a cure for her mom, but she hasn't found an antidote yet. She is very smart but does not know martial arts. She fell in love with Theiu Ngu Ngi, but never confesses her love to him because he loved Theiu Tien Nhu. But when Theiu Tien Nhu died, Do An was the one who comforted Theiu Nhu Ngi, and he fell in love with her too. Too bad he chose the wrong time to tell her that.
Yuan Guan is good. I like her. This is the first time I've seen her. What's weird is her outfits and hair. She wore skirts and vests and her hair was reddish, like she dyed it before the she got this role and couldn't change it back. That's a bit too modern for an ancient series, but Yuan Guan still looked really pretty.
Yang Xue - Ngoc Yen: She is a daughter of Yang Biet Hac but served as a maid there because Yang Biet Hac's wife hates her for being the daughter of Yang Biet Hac and another woman. Through her suffering, she became evil and her goal was to be with Vo Khuyet so she ended up doing many evil things to try to get him, including marrying the emperor and killing her sister Yang Phung, Tam Lan, and other people. She also become very powerful, martial arts-wise. She took Sam Tac Luc Nhan and used it for herself so she can suck other people's kung fu skills, including the Hoa Gi Cung leaders'.
What's with this girl and playing villians? I see her only as a girl who turned evil because of the hardships she bears. Yang Xue is pretty good at playing those types of character though. I can see the hatred in her eyes and all that other good stuff that makes a person look evil. I can tell that she is obsessed with Vo Khuyet, espcially the part when Ngoc Yen pulled the curtain around the bed before she raped Vo Khuyet. Well, it wasn't exactly rape. He didn't say no, but he was drugged to make everything, and I mean everything, look like Tam Lan.
Bai Xue - Thieu Tien Nhu: She is the youngest daughter of this high- ranking man and she is really beautiful. She is kind of spoiled and mean but in a good way that makes her cute. She and Thieu Ngu Nhi fell in love, but Liu Hi's evilness stopped them from being together.
Bai Xue was really cute in here. She and Dicky make a good couple, the cutest out of this whole series. She was good as Thieu Tien Nhu. She was great at acting as a pouty spoiled-but-still-cute type of girl. Too bad Thieu Tien Nhu died. That was pretty sad.
Yumiko Cheng - Yang Poung: She is the oldest daughter of Yang Biet Hac. She is rightous and liked Theiu Ngu Nhi even though he never accepted her. Although her mom hates Ngoc Yen, Yang Phung is the only person who was really kind to her, but her kindness did not get returned.
Not much to say about Yumiko. She is really pretty and she did pretty well as Yang Phoung. But at times it seems like she's trying too hard to be the tough kung fu person. It didn't look right. Other than that she did pretty well, but she wasn't a major character.
Tsui Kam Kong - Ac Tam Tien: He's this clumsy moron whose goal is to be like the occupants in Dao Ac Nhan, so when he knew that Theiu Ngu Nhi lived there, he became Theiu Ngu Nhi's student. He was in love with Thieu Thieu, Tam Lan's servant, but their relationship could not last.
This guy is funny. And I know he can act because I saw him in "Chinese Paladin" as an evil person and he played that part well. In "Amazing Twins", Kam Kong played an idiot, and he was good at that character also. That shows that Kam Kong can play a variety of characters. He did very well in the scene where he died, you can tell he was in pain. That part was really heart-wrecnhing. And the part where he carried Thieu Thieu's corpse was also sad. He was going to give her these flowers he picked out and when he was going to give it to her, he found her dead.
Liu Hi: He's a greedy man who sucks people's kung fu to be powerful, kind of like Ngoc Yen when she got all powerful. He failed, though. He is a Thai Gam, one of those gay guys who serves the emperor, and he is a pretty powerful one. He always tries to work for the concubine that the emporer likes. His allegiance changed to Ngoc Yen when her power was growing.
I do not know this actor's name but I guess he was pretty good as Liu Hi. He acted as the villian well, but he wasn't that good at playing those gay guys who works in the palace, but I don't think that's what his character is all about.
Yang Biet Hac: He is a hypocrite. He acts all heroic to other people but he is actually a coward. He fears his wife because she is the god-daughter of Liu Hi. His goal is to learn Sam Tac Luk Nhan's power and not be afraid of Liu Hi anymore.
I don't know the actor's name who played this guy either, but he did a decent job. He just has to act as a weasel and he had a good face for that.
Comments:
I think this series is good, but I never watched the other versions of it. I like the storyline, even though it is really long. The only thing I don't like is when the old people talk or scheme. Those scenes are boring to me. And Ngoc Yen really pisses me off. She actually stole someone's baby and claimed him as her own, and her excuse to be with Kho Quyet is stupid. And the part where she dressed up as Tiet Tam Lan was so freaky. I was creeped out. That character was really insane and she got way tpo powerful. She just suddenly got all this power and that just seems impossible. Her death was pretty satisfying.
Favorite Scenes:
- The scene when Ngoc Yen died.
- When Hoa Vo Khuyet apologize to Tiet Tam Lan becuase he accused her of cheating on him with Thieu Ngu Nhi. That scene was really cute.
- When Do An cured Thieu Nhu Nhi from that poison at that doctor tournament.
- When Do An died. It was a sad scene because she died right after Thieu Ngu Nhi confessed his love to her.
- The part when Hoa Vo Khuyet saved his two sifu from those angry sects, but then his both his sifu killed themselves.
- The parts when Hoa Vo Khuyet pretended to be the fiancee of that princess and went to palace to give the three riddles. Also, when he was in the competition where the winner is going to be the princess's husband.
- The part when that famous swordsman died was really good. He didn't want the twins to watch him die so the two of them turned their backs on him and walked away a few paces. Then they dropped to their knees and and waited for that man to die. Such a heroic death...
Conclusion:
Overall I think this series is good. I would recommend that you watch it, but those of you who watched the other versions might not like this version of the series so much.
