Being a remake is never easy- being the 6th version to hit the small scene is even tougher (1979, 1984, 1986, 1994, 2000 being the previous versions- not to mention the numerous movie versions, including the 1978, 1983 and 1993 ones). Not only do you have high standards to live up to, you also have to distinguish yourself from all the other versions to avoid the knee-jerk “Not another Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre!” response.... read more

The "Heavenly Sword Dragon Saber" is the last story in a 3-part saga written by Jin Yong. It takes place mainly at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, a time when Mongolians were in control of China and our hero, Zhang Wu Ji, was to catalyse the downfall of the Yuan Dynasty and to bring about the rise of the Ming Dynasty. In the process, he became the most powerful martial Wuxia of the... read more

Overview: I'm sure you guys know the story so I'm skipping the sypnosis part. This is my first time watching this show, and although I've never watched the previous versions, I think this '03 series has a great cast and I've been addicted to it since watching episode 1. Zhang Wu Ji: Initially I had reservations about Alec Su playing the hero due to his small frame, but I was later convinced by his... read more

INTRODUCTION The third and final part of Jin Yong's Condor trilogy, "Heavenly Sword Dragon Saber" (HSDS), also known as "Yi Tian Tu Long Ji", is a story like no other. The series mainly revolves around the protagonist, Zhang Wuji, a man who goes from being an orphan to a leader with four romances. Of course, the story is also about two weapons - the Yi Tian Jian (Heavenly Sword) and Tu Long Dao (Dragon Saber),... read more

Being a huge fan of "Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber" (HSDS), I waited for this series excitedly. I watched the Hong Kong 1986 version of the series (starring Tony Leung), which made me have high expectations for this version as well. Basically, there wasn't any big miscast in this version. The first misfit is Alec Su as Zhang Cuishan. With his baby face, it was not very convincing to see him with the other... read more

Heavenly Sword Dragon Sabre (HSDS) is the third of Chinas latest Jin Yong adaptations, following hot on the heels of the excellent Legend of the Condor Heroes (LOCH), and as such expectations are naturally high. Given the favourable reviews on the Smiling Proud Wanderer 2002, HSDS always had a very tough act to follow, and it managed to deliver in spades. I believe most people here already know the story of HSDS, and as such... read more

This version of Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre Sword (HSDS) is the newest version of the popular novel Jin Yong wrote. It still revolves around the love triangles between Ming Sect leader Zhang Wuji, Mongolian Princess Zhao Min, ErMei's Zhou Zhiruo, Wuji's cute servant Xiaozhao, and Wuji's cousin Chu Er. I have only watched TVB's HSDS 2000 by Lawrence Ng, Gigi Lai, and Charmaine Sheh, and this version, so my comparisons will only be... read more

This is one of CCTVs Jin Yong productions. I have only seen State of Divinity and I thought that was an excellent first attempt to produce Jin Yongs novels into a TV series. This series is also very good. There are a few minor dislikes but overall, I think this series is worth watching. Plot Any version of Jin Yongs 14 books is excellent. Although I dont remember the oldest version of Heaven Sword... read more

I didn't like the fighting in the end, but the rest of the series was good. Until the 2009 version comes out, this will be my favorite Yi Tian To Long Ji series.
The fighting was NOT GOOD especially when they pulled out weird rainbow and colorful effects...The effects were bad..I actually thought the fighting in DGSD was better, I mean yeah a lot of effects but it never felt really weird..
what can i say, this series got good looking girls..say enough....great series...

I liked the casting for this series. I thought all the actors were suitable and portrayed their roles very well. And, more importantly, there was great chemistry between Zhao Min & Zhang Wu Ji. For me, this version is the best by far. I don't know if I can say the same for the upcoming 09 one...
