Born and in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Edison Koon-Hei Chen is a Hong Kong actor, cantopop musician, producer, fashion icon, and celebrity. Raised and residing in Vancouver until the age of 19, Chen was spotted by a Hong Kong talent scout while at a party with friends. This lead to his first commercial, an appearance in the Takashi Miike film Dead or Alive 2: Birds, and as his debut film, the Hong Kong film Gen-Y Cops. Since he has appeared in several successful films such as Infernal Affairs, Initial D, and Dog Bite Dog. Aside from being an actor, his music work is also prominent. Starting at age twenty, he has produced hip hop music, and appeared with Japanese hip-hop group M-Flo on their album Cosmiccolor as well as with Singaporean musician Hanjin Chen. Edison Chen also runs his personally owned multi-media company, Clot Media Division from which he aims to produce music and film.
In 2008, Edison was involved in a photo scandal that has paused his career. Several sexually explicit nude photographs taken by himself were stolen and circulated over the internet. The photos may have been stolen while his Mac was serviced at a couple of Chinese computer shops. The photos implicated several other celebrities such as Bobo Chan, Gillian Chung and Cecilia Chung. Since the scandal, Edison has taken a year off and is slowly starting his career back up.
