Takeshi Kaneshiro, also known as Kaneshiro Takeshi in the Japanese media, was born in Taipei, Taiwan and is of mixed Japanese (from father's side) and Taiwanese (from mother's side) descent. As a result of of his mixed background and his attendance at a Taipei American school as a kid, he learned to speak English, Mandarin, Taiwanese, Japanese, and Cantonese.
Takeshi Kaneshiro started out as a singer but later switched over to acting as his true calling. At the start of his acting career, he was cast in Wong Kar Wai's well received "Chungking Express" and "Fallen Angels" and continued to appear in more Hong Kong films after that. Takeshi also gained many Japanese fans after starring in a Japanese TV series "God, Please Give Me More Time". His handsome looks were used to create the playable character in the Playstation 2 game, Omimusha - a movie adaptation of the same name is due 2011 starring Takeshi Kaneshiro. However, Takeshi's acting is focused mainly in Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong. His most recent movie is playing Zhuge Liang in John Woo's epic "The Battle of Red Cliff" in 2008.
