Synopsis
THe story revolves around Ko Byeong-hee (Ko Hyun-jung), a 33-year old reporter working for a sexy magazine for adult men called C'est Si Bon. Byeong-hee, unmarried at aged 33, is still a virgin when the story opens. Despite having had no men in her life before, Byeong-hee fantasizes and writes about sexual acts for her magazine.
Park Cheol-su (Cheon Jung-myung) is nine years younger than Byeong-hee but he has loved her since a tender young age. He knows that it is an impossible relationship and left home to wander around the world for a year after his parents died. When he returns, unexpected things happen and he, also a virgin, went to bed with Byeong-hee. Cheol-su works as a car mechanic, and he has no higher ideals to pursue further education nor does he have firm plans for his future. He lives wildly, rides a motorcycle and enjoys fun and sun. A live-for-the-moment man.
Bae Hee-myeong (Cho Yeon-woo), an urologist, answers an advice column for C'est Si Bon" and in his regular contact with Byeong-hee, he becomes curious about her and pursues her. Byeong-hee's family and very good friend (who happens to be Cheol-su's sister) approve of Hee-myeong because he is intelligent, mature and stable, has a good career as a doctor and can definitely provide a good life for Byeong-hee.
Ko Jun-hee (Kim Eun-joo) is the younger sister of Byeong-hee. More daring than Byeong-hee, she exudes an air of confidence. She is a second-rate fashion model hoping for her big break. She ties up with Park Byeong-gak (Son Hyeong-joo), an important and influential person in the fashion industry. Byeong-gak is also nicknamed Bulldog for his short stature, weird and rude personality. Jun-hee incidentally resembles Bulldog's wife, who died in an accident with her lover. Till this day, Bulldog still remembers his wife and he even has a full-size poster of her at home. In working with Bulldog for a while, Jun-hee realises that he is actually a good person with a devoted heart and falls for him. It's ironic that on the one hand, Jun-hee's sister, Byeong-hee, is in love with a man much younger than her while she (Jun-hee) is in love with a man very much older than her. Bulldog is 42 years old.
Comments
The comic scenes are hilarious. Although this DVD is rated "PG - Some sexual references", I would think it might well be rated NC-18. There are indeed many sexual references and fantasies and I must add, the scenes on such are simply hilarious, but definitely explicit.
All the five main actors named above put up very good acts. Cheon Jung-myung is one cute guy to look out for. He is really sweet-faced and cheeky. When he smiles, you'd want to pinch his cheeks. Ko Hyun-jung is simply hilarious and wonderful as an ageing woman who has yet to experience sex with a man.
Cho Yeon-woo is dashing in his suits but somehow I feel there's no chemistry between Ko Hyun-jung and him. Yeon-woo in fact puts up a rather stilted act. Since he is a mature man of the world, I'd think he'd be more amorous towards Hyun-jung but he maintains a very nonchalant air about him, like he does not care a hoot about sex.
Kim Eun-joo is stylish as a model and she portrays a frank attitude towards what constitutes THE good life - money, success and fame.
The imaginative scenes between the 42-year Byeong-gak as the younger brother-in-law of 24-year-old Cheol-su are laughable.
The ending episodes when Cheoul-su prepares to leave for his two-year army stint are touching.
Overall
This is one romance series worth watching because it is fun, hilarious and upbeat. Ko Hyun-jung and Cheon Jung-myung are both fresh-faced and natural in their acting. Their oh-so-romantic, and some near-miss kissing scenes will send quivers upon viewers. Trust me, this is one other Korean series where the ending is not morbid and sad sad sad. I think we have enough of sad love stories in the past - unrequited love, that sort of thing - and bravo to "Foxy Lady" and "My Lovely Samsoon" - there is hope for lovers, despite age differences.
The heart already has the answer, but one has only to listen deeply and this is what Byeong-hee listens to when she faces the dilemma of who she would choose for a life partner.
