The Iron Empress

Synopsis:

The Iron Empress is a South Korean television program of 78 episodes airing through the year 2009. The plot of the big-budget, sweeping historical drama set in the Goryeo era of Korean history focuses on Empress Cheon Chu (respected actress Chae Shi Ra), the granddaughter of the first emperor of united Goryeo. The empress must combat the external enemies from Manchuria to protect her nation, and the internal conflicts of her royal court demand that she sacrifice her personal feelings for some of the closest members of her family. To prepare for the correct historical scenes of combat dating to the year 1000, Chae Shi Ra intensively studied martial arts and horseback riding. The series is notable for its extravagant, exciting battle staging.
