The Review: (Spoilers)
It starts out as the typical action packed cops seeking revenge from the robbers’ story but there’s a slight twist. Chan chun was supposed to get married to his fiancée, who was choosing rings when she was killed in the explosion that occurred during the robbery. Fong Yik-Wei way pulls over the robbers for a routine check and gets badly beaten and humiliated. Wai King-Ho is trying to discover the whereabouts of his undercover cop brother whom he later realises was killed by the robbers – Wu Jing and Andy Ong.
Unbeknownst to the three action heroes, the bad guys also have their own score to settle. Apparently, the mastermind of the robbery had double-crossed the robbers so while the robbers were physically involved in the heist, the mastermind got to keep all the cash they had stole and so they are out for revenge too. The bad guys get their fair share of time in the movie explaining why they had turned bad too. It kind of felt strange how the whole movie was written to ensure everyone had sufficient time to tell their stories. And you get cheesy moments where two of the characters (one good guy, one bad guy) will be sitting among burning cars talking about “changing to be a better person” while the police force is advancing towards them with their guns drawn. Makes you wish they would just get back to kicking butts which they do. The action scenes are totally awesome. It’s no hold barrels kind of fights and the three main leads literally get their asses kicked by the bad guys!
It was in the middle of the story that I became a little confused over who the really bad guys were. The mastermind of the robbery was in fact a cop and I had a hard time figuring out which cop was the bad guy. The movie does not help by throwing lots of red herrings too. Perhaps the story writers are trying to tell you that not all bad guys are truly bad guys, sometimes it is their situation that makes then turn bad while the good guys are in actual fact the truly bad guys since they had a choice to be good but chose to be bad instead.
Nicholas Tse (Chan chun) is perfect as a cop out for revenge, beating up anyone that pisses him off. He truly looked like he was that close to losing his mind with his flagrant disregard of his life when chasing suspects. Shawn Yue (Fong Yik-Wei) as the cool cop, seeking revenge for his humiliation plays his "cool" role to perfection. Jayee Chan (Wai King-Ho), reminds me of a younger Jackie Chan, playing the righteous, goody policemen to the tee. However, he has a tendency of over acting at certain parts. All three handle their action scenes well. Sam Lee acting as the only surviving cop from the armed robbery who becomes mad is a truly good actor who unfortunately does not seem to get more fleshy roles. He really had me thinking that he had truly lost his mind. There are a couple of funny scenes to watch out for (the scene where the three leads are applying medication on one another and Jayee giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to a drunkard homeless man).
Yes, No or Maybe... To watch or not?
If you like non stop action packed movie then this would be good to watch.
