Director John Woo returns to Asia to produce an epic war story adapted from one of China's four most famous works of literature, "Romance of the Three Kingdoms". The story is set during the famous battles at Red Cliffs where the forces of Sun Quan (Chang Chen) and Liu Bei (You Yong) ally to fight against the formidable forces led by Cao Cao. Zhou Yu (Tony Leung Chiu Wai), serving as chief commander of Sun Quan's armies, defends the south to fight Cao Cao and meets his foe in Zhuge Liang (Takeshi Kaneshiro). Zhuge Liang, the famous "Sleeping Dragon", was recruited by Liu Bei and he aides his lord in war strategy and at the same time starts to set the stage where a tripodal force of power will be split amongst the kingdom. Other cast members include Zhao Wei as Sun Shangxiang, Hu Jun as Zhao Yun, and Lin Chi-ling as Xiao Qiao.
"Battle of Red Cliff" is the epic retelling of the famous battle scenes at Red Cliff, and is adapted from China's beloved historical classic, Three Kingdoms.
