Main Storyline:
Yuen Hei and Yip Yeung have the exact same birthday, but live completely different lives. Yuen Hei is a poor orphan while Yip Yeung is a wealthy boy who gets whatever he wants. Both wants to change their lives, but it isn't going to be easy...
Storyline (Spoilers):
As you know, they both want to change their life. Yuen Hei wants to be rich, having had lived a pitiful life. That's when he meets Lee Sing Tin, a knowledgeable man descended from one of the writers of the Tui Bei Tu, a prophetic book used to predict the future. After knowing his true identity, Yuen Hei begs him to be his mentor. After a while, Lee Sing Tin accepts him and Yip Yeung as an apprentice. However, Yip Yeung has bigger plans. Yip Yeung claims that Lee Sing Tin is a fake so he decides to take on another mentor, Nam Fong Man, who tells him that the throne should be his. Yip Yeung wants to be king, knowing that the current emperor threw his family off the throne, taking it for himself. But even with powerful divination, your destiny isn't going to change that easily. Add complicated love in this and this would be one risk you're taking. Fok Yee Na, the daughter of Lee Sing Tin, (This is a major spoiler!) is forced to marry Yip Yeung. Yuen Hei and Fok Yee Na soon fall in love. Don't forget Sum Yee and Fei Fung! Yip Yeung meets Fei Fung and Sum Yee. Before they knew it, Sum Yee and Yip Yeung fell in love. However, Fei Fung is a princess who, too, fell in love with Yip Yeung, who doesn't share the same feelings. Sum Yee knows that she couldn't compete with the Princess so she steps out off the competition. (Yip Yeung and Fok Yee Na has a divorce knowing their true feelings.) Yip Yeung rejects Fei Fung who becomes mentally unstable. After a series of complications, Yip Yeung decides to use the princess to get closer to the throne.
Ending:
Yip Yeung's grand plan fails and the king's brother is the one who got the throne after the king's death. He and Fei Fung becomes mental afterwards. They live in the countryside with Sum Yee, who cares for them. Yuen Hei and Fok Yee Na finds the perfect place to grow old and have descendants.
Ratings:
Steven Ma - I like Steven's acting very much. This wasn't one of his best series, but I was impressed with how good he could act and get into character. I can't think of anyone who could have played this role. Steven's one of those actors, (like: Moses Chan, Bobby Au Yeung, Bowie Lam, Roger Kwok, etc.) that can act in a variety of roles and become the character. He certainly stood out of the cast. (It's no wonder he's a personal favorite of mine.) Overall-5/5
Benny Chan-He is a very experienced and talented actor. I always wonder how he does it. He gets into character so fast, it makes you think if they made the role for him. I was surprised to see how good he could act as a villain/traitor. This series shows you how good he can act. This is one skilled actor here. Overall-5/5
Yuen Wah-He is an excellent actor. He can play various roles and is an acting veteran. All I have to say is, he is truly skilled in acting. Overall-5/5
Shirley Yeung-She is a wonderful actress. She is getting better and better in the entertainment industry. When she first started acting, I felt that her acting was a little too over the top. She has changed a lot and this series shows it. She showed her soft side and also her aggressive side. Overall-5/5
Selena Li-She is improving, but there is still a lot of room for improvement. I felt that she was a bit over the top. I'm not trying to be mean, but her looks...she looks too innocent and weak. Not trying to be offensive but seriously, she doesn't fit the part. Sum Yee is supposed to be a strong girl who knows kung fu, but when you see Selena Li, you automatically think, pretty girl. She did really good and her efforts show, but I would prefer it if another actress played this role. Overall-4/4
Mimi Lo-I found her role rather annoying. She got into character, but made it far to fake. Her role was easy, yet she didn't really pull it off. Her acting is improving, but she could have done better. Overall-4/4
Chemistry:
Steven Ma and Shirley Yeung-Really unique and refreshing. These two pulled it off and their relationship kept you interested. This is a really good pair. 5/5
Benny Chan and Selena Li-They looked really nice together and their acting went into it smoothly. These two had a really good connection, I just didn't like the characters they were supposed to play. 5/5
Benny Chan and Mimi Lo-Awkward. This pairing was supposed to not match, but seriously, would they really have fallen for each other? 3.5/5
Ups:
Change in Cast (Refreshing)
Unique Storyline
Good Cast
Many Laugh Out Loud Scenes
Downs:
Religious
Too Much Focus on Yip Yeung (Benny Chan)
Why You Should See This:
A Change In Destiny is a one of a kind series. This was really original and the cast was great. The storyline focuses on the Tui Bei Tu and divination, which gives you how important and meaningful it was in China in the past.
Why You Shouldn't See This:
You are too narrow-minded to believe in divination and feng shui. The storyline is too long for you. (Wth, it's only 20 eps?)
I personally like this series. It's not the best, but it is worth watching.
