Plot:
'Dream of Colours' concentrates on Michelle's life. She is a friendly and playful girl who doesn't have any priorities or stableness in her life. She keeps moving from one university to another and this upsets her parents, especially her dad.
When Michelle comes back to Hong Kong her grandpa gives her a job to be Nick Yau's secretary. Michelle's grandpa was Nick Yau's master who taught him how to design beautiful clothes, so Nick was very happy to accept Michelle as his secretary.
Ella and Fifi quickly become Michelle's friends, but Ella becomes jealous of Michelle's luck in life and begins plotting against her behind her back. Ella lives with her two brothers and sister-in-law. Her sister in law is very mean to her and Ella lives there unhappily. All through Ella's life she has been trying her best to achieve her goals and has done everything by herself. Due to this Ella feels that Michelle does not deserve to live such an easy life without even trying as hard as herself, so she does everything she can to get rid of Michelle. Nick's long lost brother has strong feelings for Ella. He obviously likes her a lot, but Ella is not sure about her feelings for him. She is concentrating more on plotting against Michelle and doing her best to become a great fashion designer.
Fifi and Michelle's brother argue consistently but despite that, they still have feelings for each other. As they both model together they come to the realisation that they both feel the same way about each other and then become boyfriend and girlfriend. They both work as a team at a modelling agency.
Nick Yau has been dating Elaine for ten years and they love each other very much. But whenever Elaine needs Nick most, he is not by her side. When Elaine knows how much chemistry there is between Nick and Michelle, she begins to realise that the love between Nick and herself is slowly slipping away. Elaine is very sad and upset that Nick has so much chemistry with Michelle after knowing her for a short period of time, but so less with herself after dating her for ten years. When Nick asks Elaine to marry him, she is very happy. But she still decides to break up with him because she doesn't want to be in a loveless marriage lasting for only a short period of time.
This series mainly revolves around these stories before coming to an enjoyable ending.
Comments:
Storyline:
I think the storyline of this series is quite predictable. It is very obvious from the very start that Michelle and Nick will fall in love with each other. It is even more predictable that Fifi and Michelle's brother would eventually date each other. But I think that the thing that captured me most about this series is how unique the fashion was. I really loved how the outfits were modelled by the actresses. The storyline is much too predictable, but it is the fashion that many viewers enjoyed most.
Cast:
Tse Kwan Ho - Nick Yau :
I find that Tse Kwan Ho is nearly always so serious. I guess that he is supposed to be, because of the character he plays in this series. But when I see him smile occasionally he looks really cute! I think Tse Kwan Ho is a great actor. I like the way he does facial expressions and I like the tones he speaks in. He always has the right expressions for each situation he is in.
Rating - 5/5
Myolie Wu - Michelle :
To me, Myolie Wu is a great actress in all her series! She does cry very well, which I have read about in a lot of other reviews. She also has a very cheerful, bubbly smile that lights up many of the sad moments in the series. I think Myolie is fantastic at acting because she has a good smile and can cry very well, therefore she is able to have a range of emotions on screen.
Rating - 5/5
Melissa Ng - Elaine :
I don't really like Melissa's acting sometimes because her voice is nearly always the same except when she is sad. When she is happy and feeling ok, she is always having the same facial expressions and tone of voice. But I really love Elaine's fashion! She has the best clothes! I wish I could have her wardrobe. The outfits completely match her. Her acting is still quite good because I think that her facial expressions are because of her character. Her character is always very understanding, kind and generous. I think this is why her facial expressions seem to always be the same.
Rating - 4/5
Rain Li - Fifi :
I really enjoyed watching Rain be a happy character in this series. Rain acted very well, but I wish that she had a main part in this series because she is a really good actress. She displays her character wonderfully as the teenager with a bit of immature attitude! Her scenes with Chris Lai were very funny! It is a shame that she wasn't in many scenes.
Rating - 4/5
Sharon Chan - Ella :
I think that Sharon had satisfactory acting in this series. When she cried her tears didn't really seem to come out and she didn't seem to have good facial expressions. I saw her improve a lot though, in 'The Last Breakthrough'.
Rating - 3/5
Kenneth Ma - Nick Yau's long lost brother :
I enjoyed Kenneth's acting in this series. He had a lot of emotions because he was confused about his character was confused about his relationship with Ella. I think Kenneth expresses his feelings very openly and his facial expressions are very good. I felt deeply sorry for his character though because he was manipulated by Ella. I wish that Kenneth was in more scenes!
Rating - 4/5
Chris Lai - Michelle's brother :
Chris is very funny in this series but I think that because of this, he doesn't have that many feelings in this series. He is always having fun with Myolie and Rain. I think that his is a very funny and casual actor though, which is excellent! I wish that the story about his relationship with Rain was expanded though, because it would give them both more scenes.
