Storyline:
There really isn't much to the storyline. Sunny and Jessica got married because Sunny wanted to take responsibility for Jessica's baby, who was conceived during a ski trip, which was also the first time they had ever met. And because of the abruptness, the couple did not have the chance to get to know each other very well. Throughout the series, Sunny and Jessica get into many arguments because of misunderstandings but their baby kept them together for the most part.
Why You Should Watch This Series:
If you're into family series, then this is for you. This is somewhat like A Handful Of Love, starring Jessica and Joe Ma. She plays the "man of the relationship" while her significant other stays at home to be the mother figure. The only difference is that the baby in Just Love is her own biological child. In both series, her ex-boyfriend still has feelings for her and a woman falls for her husband. This series shows how even through all the different ordeals life might throw at you, if you and your love are "meant to be," then you will be able to solve your problems no matter what. The baby in this series is also very cute but I think they switched the baby once or twice.
Why You Shouldn't Watch This Move:
This series was very dull. It lacked creativity, humor, and the actors didn't really have a lot of chemistry. The series start off with Jessica and Sunny already having problems. There were hardly any scenes where they were even a loving couple. It is too unrealistic that a man like Sunny would stay with anyone like Jessica. When I first read about this series, I thought it would be juicy because it involves two men fighting over Jessica. But there was nothing, I tell ya, NOTHING! Dave Wong didn't even profess his love to Jessica until the later half of series and honestly, he didn't really look like much of a threat to me.
The only funny scenes in this series were with Natalie Tong when she wanted to loosen up Dave Wong. Her three requests definitely made the series more humorous. It was a shame that she didn't have a lot of screening time. She may be young but I think she can go far with TVB.
Another reason of many why you shouldn't watch this series is that it doesn't go ANYWHERE. It's a series revolving around family problems so obviously it's about one problem arising after another. I didn't really mind in A Handful of Love but in JUST LOVE, it's just like SHUT UP ALREADY. If you guys are really incompatible, just file for a divorce! This series will really get your brain to explode. I only watched the whole series because I felt since I wasted so much time already, I might as well wait it out. I basically used this as background sound. One thing I looked forward to was Natalie's return. I hoped it was sooner than later because I wanted her to liven things up again. I wanted to see at least SOMEONE kiss in this series. No one showed that kind of affection to another in this series. Even though Sunny loved Jessica, he only pecked her cheek once. Jessica never even hugged Sunny until the end. The kiss between Johnson and Fiona wasn't really much of a thriller.
Another thing... I think TVB uses "Love" in their titles too often. For example: A Handful of Love, Just Love, Love Guaranteed, Lost in the Chamber of Love, Weapons of Love and Passion, At Home With Love, To Grow With Love... like just stop it already!
Jessica:
I think she got the professional roles down-pact. She has so much experience in this category and I think she suited this role perfectly. However, when it came to the "emotional" acting, I think she wasn't that great here. When she had to be "emotionally disturbed," it didn't come off that great. I think she was A LOT better in Golden Faith. Jessica's "crying scene" which was more like "fake-sniffling-and-putting-her-hand-near-her-face-scene" was pretty fake. I also didn't like her character. Judge Ko barged into the meditation room when she heard her husband say, "If you don't smile, I'm not feeding you." Obviously he's kidding. He loves the darn kid. But she made such a big deal out of it. I guess it's just because she's a magistrate.
Sunny Chan:
I haven't seen him in a lot of series. I remember watching in A Threshold of An Era. I was pretty young then but I remember I really liked him and I was really sad when he died. Then I saw in Detective Investigative Files IV and Love Guaranteed. He was really great in the former. I specifically loved the scene when he rushed into the interrogation room to ask Charmaine if she broke up with him just to protect him from getting involved with a crime. In Love Guaranteed, he was really funny with Melissa Ng. They also look kind of compatible probably because they look to be about the same age whereas I think he looks a bit too old to be with Jessica. Both the male leading cast don't look to be Jessica's type.
Dave Wong:
This was the first time I ever saw this man. I think he did pretty good in this because as a judge, he definitely has the loud voice. It's just that he's a bit short. He definitely looks very strict at the beginning of the series until Natalie lived with him for a while. When he professed his love to Jessica, you can tell he was hesitant and nervous. Dave Wong did a good job connecting to the viewers because we could understand his feelings and such.
Natalie Tong:
She plays the typical role of a teenager. She is rebellious and just wants to have fun. She learns from her time with Dave Wong that she has to take responsibility for actions and to think before she does something. He also helps her decide to go back to the States to further continue her education. I think she was a sweet and funny character in this series. She made everything lighter.
Patrick Tang:
Honestly, he does not look like a lawyer. I think he only did an okay job in this. This is nothing compared to his role in Into Thin Air, starring Michael Miu and Melissa Ng. He was so touching in THAT series that I actually cried. Maybe he didn't have the same effect in this series because it's not that great of a series to begin with.
Selina Li:
This is also the first time I've ever seen Selina, or at least that's what I think. I think she did a great job portraying a clumsy yet motivated person. However, her later parts as the antagonist wasn't that moving. She tried too hard to look evil that it came off kind of pathetic. She is generally too soft-spoken. Also, I think her clothes did not fit her at all. She is a very skinny person and her clothes looks too big for her. Her clothes made her look very unflattering by hiding her curves, that is if she has any, since I can't tell with the UNFITTING clothes.
