The most exciting series is one without too much hope but turns out to be extremely enjoyable and beyond oneâs expectation; that is exactly what "Misleading Track" is. There hasnât been a truly decent modern TVB series recently, however, "Misleading Track" gives viewers hope that perhaps TVB can produce an entertaining serial.
Plot Summary:
Louisa So was framed for murdering her husband (Deric Wan) in Taiwan and was jailed wrongly for five years. During those years she had no one by her side because she caused a huge misunderstanding with her family in Hong Kong; therefore her son was under the custody of Winnie Yeung whom she considers as her best friend. Because of her good conduct while in prison, she was freed earlier and returns to Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, she meets a kind-hearted lawyer, Bowie Lam, and begins working in his law office. Besides finding her sonâs whereabouts, she is also trying to make up for what she has done to her family.
On the other hand, she spots Deric in the busy streets of Hong Kong, at first she has doubts, but times after times make her realize that perhaps Deric is still living. Deric, who is now married to Cindy Au, is trying to win the acceptance of Cindyâs father, Kwok Fung. Surprisingly, Winnie returns to Hong Kong from America and also claims that she is Dericâs wife. Unexpected events after events reveal Dericâs true identity to the other characters, and to prevent exposing his true identity, deaths are followed by deaths. Meanwhile, Louisa is seeking evidence to bring Deric down with the help of Bowie, who is experiencing great problems with family issues.
Evaluation on the Cast:
Louisa So â She has been acting for so long and is finally given a leading role. She definitely steals the spotlight with her spectacular, realistic acting. Her character is also a bonus, allowing her to show a wide range of emotions.
Bowie Lam â I have never grown to like this actor, there is some sort of barrier that is blocking me. Nevertheless, he portrays his character well, and itâs no difference here. His character is also very well-written, making constant transition between white and black areas. Also, despite having a rather cold and unfriendly facial structure, Bowie somehow manages to have great chemistry with his female co-stars, from Flora in "Untraceable Evidence" to Gigi in "War and Beauty", now Christine in "Misleading Track". On a bad note, Bowie should stop singing theme songs to his series, because although the song is great here, perhaps someone else is more suitable.
Deric Wan â He is amazing as a villain. Deric does extremely well either as a good guy or a bad guy, and that make the series even more prominent. There is no need to further evaluate this actor, because he has shown viewers with his previous villain roles.
Christine Ng â She is another actor that is similar to Bowieâs case, she acts fairly well but is somehow not very likeable. Here, I expected a change, since her character in the beginning is so unique and loveable. But to make the series more intense and interesting, her character becomes a complete idiot. I havenât hated a "nice" character in so long, because truly her character does no harm and is in no way evil.
Overall Evaluation:
A highly interesting storyline combines with an experience, well-acting cast make the series a joy to watch. Honestly, there are no boring parts in the entire series, and that is extremely rare. I was literally on the edge of my seat for some of the latter parts in the series. In addition, there are no loopholes in the series as well, considering itâs a detective, mystery genre where the chances for loopholes are high. Even though I practically have no negative criticism for this series, there really is no such thing as a perfect series; therefore "Misleading Track" deserves a rating of 4.5/5.
