Main Storyline:
Joey plays an ugly girl who mistakens herself as an adopted child in episode one. Along with that, she finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her with one of her closest co-workers. She also gets fired. She realizes all those three things happened because she is not pretty enough. Therefore, she wants to go through plastic surgery.
In order to keep her new pretty face, she has to do a good deed--to help Roger find a wife within 3 months. If she doesn't, she will transform back into an ugly girl.
Roger plays a stuck-up, selfish, arrogant man who always tries to cheat and hurt others. Towards the second half of the series, Roger hits a low point where he gets fired from his job and gets betrayed by his sidekick, "Sunny." His family turns over a new leaf and is no longer out to cheat others so Roger feels his family doesn't understand him anymore. From all that stress, Roger begins to lose his hair, which he believes is the best feature of a man. He loses his confidence and his pride but Joey helps him get it back. They fall in love but since Joey fails to carry out the mission, her original ugly face is only seen by the one she loves--Roger. Can Roger spend the rest of his life looking at an ugly Joey?
This series is a definite must-see. Of all the comedies TVB has produced, this is definitely up there. The storyline and the characters are very humorous, and at the same time, can be serious. I think the last episode is the funniest of them all so keep watching till the end! The theme song is very upbeat with Roger and Joey. The lines of the theme song and the different scenes also go together very well.
Characters:
Roger Kwok - He was awesome in this series. As a big fan of Roger, even though he plays a despicable man, I couldn't help but love him. I think he is so talented. He is so versatile in his characters. He can play a smart investigator (To Get Unstuck in Time), a villain (Detective Investigative Files IV), a mentally-challenged man (Square Pegs and Life Made Simple), and now--a self-absorbed bigot. It is very hard to play a character who is so different from your true self. Even though in Life Made Simple, Roger has to play a grown man with a mind of an 8-year-old but everyone should have enough experience to know how an 8-year-old acts. But to know and learn how someone as annoying as the Leonardo character acts? What a great job!
Joey Yung - This is my first series watching Joey. I think she did a great job. She may not be the prettiest girl in the world but she sure is cute. Her acting is also very natural and heart-warming. It goes with the character Peg so you can tell Peg is natural a good-hearted person. Joey is also very funny. I love the times when Joey and Roger argue and call each other names. Joey's hand gestures are cute and funny. Two thumbs up for Joey!
Kevin Cheng - I just realized that Kevin's nose kind of looks funny. But whatever, he's still handsome. He's probably one of the best-looking TVB actors. I think it has a lot to do with his eyes and brows. Kevin's acting wasn't that thrilling but it wasn't horrible. I just didn't understand his character, Wilson. What did Wilson want anyway? Did he truly like Peg, Betty, and Michelle? When did he start liking them and when did he stop? Wilson is just a very confusing person. If that's the whole point of his character, then Kevin did a pretty good job.
Tiffany Lam - She only starred in two TVB series: Net Deception and Not Just A Pretty Face. I think she did a very good job in this series because even as a newbie, she delivered her lines very well. Her facial expressions were also pretty good. I wouldn't mind watching her in more series. The only thing I noticed is her hairline is a bit messed up in the front but she's still pretty unlike a lot of Miss Hong Kong Pageant winners.
Victoria Jane Jolly - Ew. I think she was a big flaw in the series. Maybe it's because she's an Eurasian newbie. Tiffany's new to TVB too but her Chinese was pretty good. Victoria's Chinese wasn't that great but also her English was annoying. Her English accent was very thick and that's not how someone in America talks. She talks like she came from England. Also, her eye-connection sucks. She looks like she has dead eyes. When she was doing the cat-walk in the series, her eyes, which were meant to look seductive, made me want to throw something at the TV. I don't think Victoria is that pretty and her acting isn't that great. If someone better was casted, the series would be a lot better.
Margaret Chung - LOL. I think she really portrayed the clueless klutz very well. Her expressions are very convincing. I love the part when she couldn't find the bathroom so she gave up and when she got so scared of Roger yelling at her, she kept running away until Roger threw a Pepsi can at her head to get her attention. Margaret also turns into a "bad" person towards the end and it was hilarious. Not bad, not bad.
Belinda Hamnett- She was pretty funny at the beginning when she kept going after Roger. I love the scene when Roger kept trying to avoid Belinda's attempts of kissing him. Belinda definitely played a good supporting character.
