Overall:
I would like to say if you are thinking of renting this series, please don't waste your money. The first 20 episodes are a waste of time. I couldn't help but feel it was a waste of film when I watched the first 20 episodes. I think if this series was reduced to 30 episodes rather than the 50, it would have been much better.
Why do I say that?
First of all, at the beginning of the story, it is very refreshing and new to see the story of 3 orphans. But the producer Mr. Lee Tim Sing spent too much time (about 4 episodes) in developing and explaining the lives and relationships between Gordon, Nicola and Benny. Mr. Lee made this series run very slow which made it rather boring. And only after 20 episodes does Kenix appear. She could have appeared much earlier in the story. Besides, many parts of the story do not make sense. For example, Gordon asks Michelle Ye not to marry her cousin when she is in church about to start the ceremony. How can a normal man do a thing like this? He doesn't think of the consequences. He gives viewers a wrong impression. If he really did not want her to get married, he should have told her earlier. As for Kenix's character, she is a rich lady when she appears in the series. But where does she get all that money? Okay, the story says that she slept with rich guys in the past. But not now'.??? That's just so miserable. Then, it's about Lau Lik getting into jail. How can it be so easy for a person to replace another in jail? It seems that the laws of Hong Kong are so silly and of no use. Also, how can Gordon donate his organ to Kenix under the laws of Hong Kong? Gordon is still alive and has no relationship with Kenix. It is impossible to donate organs like it is in the story. Well, did the producer do any research at all? Taking this point into consideration, I can see that TVB producers do not take things seriously.
Well, I don't like so many things in this series, but the message that it tries to give out is good.
Be positive and try to appreciate the world around you and what you have.
Acting:
Kenix Kwok is a big surprise this time around. She is a really good actress and can do any type of characters. She is very mean in this series, but she has shown that she can be a good wife in other series as well. Well done Kenix.
Gordon Lam still acts the same as he did in 'The Country Spirit'. He is a super good guy here. No slight improvement at all. He does have talent, but TVB always asks him to act the good guy roles. So nearly every series he acts in, his roles are very similar. Too bad that Gordon has already left TVB as we can now only see him in the movies.
Michelle Ye is so far so good. She has potential but still needs to improve. I liked her in ' Street Fighter' more than this series. Nicola Cheung acts quite well, she is so natural and did express her character well. Benny Chan is so far so good too. No big impression about Benny in this series. He seldom acts in modern series, so it's a refreshing look for him. Of cause, Michelle Mai and Ha Yu are a good actress and actor. No need to mention and no comment on their acting at all.
I think the worse actor/actress in this series must be Samuel Chan. His acting is still very fresh and I can see that he is very nervous. Sometimes he can't express angry facial expression well even though his tone is very angry. But for a first time actor, I think he did his best.
Theme Song
Andy Lau sings the theme song for 'Reaching Out'. I think the song is great and very suitable for this series. The lyrics are meaningful too!
