Starring: Moses Chan, Anne Heung, Kong Wah, Gigi Lai, Melissa Ng, Marco Ng, and Michael Tong Critique: Flawed piece of work that could or would have been great I'll not go in deep into the plot of this series since there are two other reviews about this series already. So I'll only review the performances of the main characters in this series (Moses, Anne, Kong, and Gigi's characters). In a nutshell,...

i'd prefer Gigi in long hair like now. her hair's so awkward here.

Consider me biased towards the fascinating 1920s era and the qipao theme. The story is entertaining, although flawed at times. Characters-wise, I feel that the secondary characters are the ones who made the show watchable. In all, I think the series is worth a watch, but don't expect too much from it.

Kwong Wa is physically awkward in this series. He has no charisma or sense of a mob lord like Chow Yun Fat. His physique is so fragile--I can kick him and he'll collapse. Don't get me wrong, I like him in certain roles but not this one.
Gigi is constantly playing the definition of emotions, never really feeling the emotions. Enough said. I wish Bernice Liu was cast in this role instead, at least she'd be a better dancer. And for God sakes, if you're gonna dub Melissa Ng's singing voice with Priscilla Chan, why not dub Gigi Lai's singing voice too, her singing is terribly lacking.
Moses & Anne do not have any chemistry. Might have been a better collaboration with Maggie Cheung, who was originally cast for the part. For Moses and Anne, whenever they're talking to each other, it's like two strangers reading lines. No sexual tensions, no feelings. Anne was alright in here but not very interesting to watch. Very boring. Moses is attempting to fill a role that should have gone to Gordon Lam. At time successful in his portrayal of a stubborn country-bumpkin, he really lacks emphathy for the character. I would have preferred Maggie Cheung and Gordon Lam in these roles.
The story is not bad, but could have been a lot better. Those TVB writers are so lazy!
