I've watched three versions of Than Dieu Hiep Lu (Return of the Condor Heroes), TVB 84, TVB 95, and TCS 98, and in my opinion the TVB 95 version starring Louis Koo and Carmen Lee is the best version. The performances of the two leading actors were exceptional so it was no surprise that this serial propelled both their careers. Although the 84 serial still remains the most popular version of RoCH, popularity does not mean that it's...

Introduction This is one of the many adaptions of Jin Yong's famous novel, "The Return of the Condor Heroes". This book has been recognised worldwide, and is very famous throughout the region. This serial has followed the original story quite well, with no cutting out of major scenes in the story. Overall, I enjoyed this serial quite a lot. ...

This serial is the fourth adaptation of Jin Yong's famous novel. It was based on the second story in the 'Condor Trilogy', with "Legend of Condor Heroes" being the first, and "Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre" being the third. I am a fan of the "Return of Condor Heroes" (ROCH) 1984 version, and after hearing much talk about the lead characters (Carmen Lee and Louis Koo), I was really looking forward to watching this series,...

Original Title (by the book): The Giant Eagle and Its Companion Genre: Typical Jin Yong Martial Arts Novel MAIN CAST: Louis Koo as Yang Guo Carman Lee as Xiao Long Nu PROLOGUE Once again, TVB remade this famous wuxia novel since its 1984 version. Strangely, it was not very popular when it was first broadcast in Hong Kong. However, it became a huge success when viewers of other countries (Taiwan, China, South East Asia etc.)watched this series. Both the lead actor &...

I just re-watched this version for third time and I must say this Louis version is the best ever! I haven't seen 2006 one, is it even worth watching?

To me, this version is the best one, at least better than the 2006 version. The 2006 version only had beautiful actors and actresses, but the acting in that version was pretty bad, and too many unnecessary special effects. If compare this version to 2006 version, I think Carman Lee is the better Xiao Long Nu than Crystal Liu because Crystal is too young for the role, and Carman's look is suited perfectly as Xiao Long Nu; Louis Koo's acting is far better than HXM in this series; the last and most important one, I really like Theresa Lee as Guo Xiang, Yang Mi is cute, but she's not a right Guo Xiang. Oh, and Lau Dan is the best Hong Qigong, he makes me love that character.

This series overall was pretty good. I still perfer the 1983 version over this for various reasons. Both versions were very good. Carman Lee did a very good job portraying the coldness of XLN but it made the character very boring as for Idy Chan she showed a more cute and outgoing XLN. Carman did portray it the closests to the novel but i still like Idy's XLN better. Though Carman Lee looked exactly like a XLN with her beauty and costume, very natural looking. For Yang Guo, Louis did a good job but like others it would be better if they had a younger boy to play the younger YG. For the cast the older generation people in the vast from 1983 version was better. For the girls the ones in this version are much cuter :) Both couples have a great chemistry together. So to conclude everything i enjoyed this adaption and it's my 2nd favourite after 1983 version.

For die-hard Jin Yong fans, this is the version to get for faithfulness to the novel and its dialog. IMO, of all the versions, Louis and Carmen have the best portrayal of YG and XLN. I'm a big fan of Jin Yong's novels, any alterations/additions to the story is just a travesty; hey if the writers are that good then they wouldn't be writing scripts for TV dramas now, would they (even Jin Yong's own revision to his novels are controversal).

The chemistry was most definitely there between Carmen and Louis. This is my favorite adaptation out of all. However, like the other movie series, it failed to cover many parts of the novel. It failed to cover the ending where Yang Gor and Xiao Long Nu climbed the Jade Maiden mountain, Gor meets Junbao (aka. young Chueng Sam Fong), and some other parts that I can't recall on top of my head.
