ACTING

Kevin Cheng (5/5)
Although Kevin Cheng has played this type of wholesome, mysterious, and serious leading man time and again such as in Trimming Success, Life Art, Under the Canopy of Love, etc., it is understandable because he truly does it best and he always does it with depth and brings something different to the performance time and again.

Niki Chow (5/5)
Niki Chow plays the tragic character that is diagnosed with cancer. As the tragic love interest opposite Kevin, Niki really utilizes the longing for love and willingness to stand by Kevin time and again. You really feel sympathy for her when Kevin keeps running off looking for his former lover Selena. You just kinda want to tell her: Go Get Your Man! Anyway, another strong performance delivered from Niki Chow. She continues to get even better with every series that she takes part in. This performance proves that she deserves her 2005 Most Improved Actress Award.

Bosco Wong (4/5)
Unlike his role in Under The Canopy of Love, in which he was the honest, kind, and caring type, here he plays a sly, money hungry, and comical character. I think Bosco did very well here. His scenes opposite Natalie Tong were hilarious and they have a surprisingly strong and fiery chemistry. After a sub-par performance in Heart of Greed in which his leading lady Tavia Yeung totally outshined and stole almost every scene from him, it is nice to see Bosco back with a performance that showcases his adept acting talents.

Natalie Tong (5/5)
For about 3 1/2 years, Natalie Tong has been stuck playing supporting roles and playing the sister of the lead role. She has improved dramatically ever since her mediocre debut in Hearts of Fencing. As Wing, the comic writer/artist, Natalie Tong proves that she can be a leading lady. Her comic timing with Bosco is right on and their chemistry with one another is scintillating. Although many will tune in for The Seventh Day for the Kevin/Niki pairing, do not underestimate the Bosco/Natalie storyline. They were just outright hilarious! Thumbs up for Natalie Tong! Her comical performance proves she has a future in TVB as a leading lady. Watch for her in the not too far future!

Selena Li (4/5)
She definitely has improved since Just Love. Selena Kevin's ex who wants to be with him and therefore dislikes Niki. Although some of her expressions seem a little too forced, I think overall Selena portrayed Kevin's ex girlfriend well. Selena was able to bring depth and life to her character and not make her seem like the stereotypical third wheel in a TVB romance series production. Selena just keeps improving every time I see her onscreen.

Charmaine Li (3/5)
As Natalie's rich friend who falls for Bosco, she was really quite ordinary. Truthfully, it was an utter disappointment. I believe this is not her best work. Her character was likeable, but something seemed to be missing from this performance. It seemed to wooden and mechanical. Some of her emotions seemed really forced and not natural. Her performance in Under the Canopy of Love was more impressive and natural compared to her performance in Seventh Day.

CHEMISTRY

Kevin/Niki
The chemistry between the duo were instant. Even when they were not together onscreen, you could feel the longing for one another. Also with an already established acting history with one another (Under the Canopy of Love & Hard Fate), it seemed that the duo just picked up where they left off. The duo seems to be comfortable with one another and their scenes with each other just exudes a natural quality that cannot be taught nor forced. Overall, I think they are one of the best pairings that TVB has put together in a long time. SPOILER: Niki's death scene is a highlight and proof. It's no wonder with all these dating rumors surrounding the pair.

Bosco/Natalie
This duo was my favorite couple out of the whole series. The love hate relationship between the pair was hilarious and sparks were just flying everywhere. Watch out for Natalie in the Awards season. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she wins Best Improved Actress. (Niki won in 2005 for The Gentle Crackdown). Anyways, the scenes between the duos just kept me laughing! They had great comic timing with each other. Although the storyline concept between the two seemed cliché, their acting skills and chemistry more than made up for it. I hope to see more series with them pairing up. Their breakup scene was hilarious and the post-breakup scenes were so sad and heart wrenching. Thankfully, at least they ended up together and had a happy ending.

Kevin/Selena
They were alright. It was nothing special. Although you felt they cared for one another, you could also sense that Kevin was now in love with Niki and not with Selena. He just truly wanted to help Selena as a friend. Selena wanted him as a lover. Although they had chemistry, it pales in comparison to Kevin/Niki's chemistry and connection.

Bosco/Charmaine
They had absolutely no chemistry. I think it was because Charmaine Li just was not on her game when filming this series. I hope she will give a much better performance in her next series.

Highlights:
- Bosco meeting Natalie's parents
- Natalie meeting Bosco's parents
- Kevin finding out that Niki has cancer
- The two couples in Japan scenes
- The race between Bosco & Natalie
- Kevin seeing Niki in Japan
- Niki's death scene
- Charmaine seeing Bosco w/Natalie
- Kevin rejecting Selena
- Kevin professing his love to Niki
- Kevin telling Niki that he wants to spend every August 7th with Niki for eternity
- The first scene in Episode 1
- The last scene in Episode 20

Overall, I think that the series was a great tragic roamnce series. If you like romance or tragic series or are fans of the four lead actors this is the series for you. If you hate sad endings or romance, go and watch some Taiwanese wuxia/action series.
