Dynasty Doctor

There has never been one good costume drama that I have watched, but I must give credits to Dynasty Doctor, or DD. This is one good film that you must watch!

I am not giving the details of the drama, as another reviewer has posted them, but I will detail some aspects which you all must know.

The lead actor, Eric Suen, was a very famous,talented singer who disappeared from the Hong Kong and Taiwanese singing industries despite an excellent profile in early 1998. You may know him as the actor who portrayed the emperor in "Princess Huai Yu". This time, he has come up with a totally new comical character in DD. Eric Suen used to have a very demure, nice and quiet character, and for those who are his fans, please don't be surprised by his new image in the drama. It shocked me at first that Eric's character could be so talkative, but as I watched on, the drama really absorbed me.

He has potrayed the young doctor, Ping Chang, so well that I must again praise him.

The first few episodes may portray him as a very irritatingly cute character but as the drama develops, emotions start to come in, making this drama worth watching. Also there is good chemistry between him and his teacher, Wong Jiu. Please watch for the parts where both of them appear as there are indeed a lot of funny and unexpected scenes.

The dubbing in Cantonese is very hilarious and I strongly recommend those who know Cantonese to watch the Cantonese version. Eric's real voice is in this version.

However it is sad that in the final few episodes Ping chang losses his mother, and I think that is where where Eric's acting talent shines through. He played his part very well. You can feel his sadness in the drama.

I hope that Eric will continue to film costume dramas because he looks extremely good in it, and hopefully there will be a sequel of Dynasty Doctor.
