Summary:

This story is fundamentally about the romance between a Qing Emperor and a Ming Princess. There are countless obstructions which the pair must go through. With enthralling story lines and captivating sceneries, no wonder this series is so popular not only in Taiwan but also throughout Asia.

Lead actor:

Eric Suen Yiu Wai as Emperor Kang Xi:
Before watching this series, I was very sceptical about Eric Suen's acting ability as I knew that he was only a singer and not an actor when he first entered the entertainment circle. 'Princess Huai Yu' is also the first ever series that he has attempted. But he has since proved me wrong by giving a rather amazing performance. Although his expressions are quite limited, it is still sufficient to carry out his role well. He did not tend to hyperbolise his facial expressions, which I find much more palatable when compared to other actors.

In this series, Suen portrayed an Emperor who is totally devoted to Fu Huai Yu. His boyish and adorable appearance made Kang Xi look even more childlike than its supposedly dewey-eyed character. But overall, it was a good start for him.

Lead actress:

Carol Zheng Jia Yu as Fu Huai Yu:
Fu Huai Yu is a Ming princess adopted by Manchu royalty. Not knowing her own identity as the previous dynasty's princess, she falls in love with the Qing Emperor, Kang Xi. Their romantic affair is purportedly prohibited. Carol Zheng did well in her role here.

How about the other actors?

The other actors are also worth watching, especially Leanne Liu Xue Hua, Chen Zhi Pen and A-Ya. Their appearance made this series made it more like a tragic comedy.

Is it worth watching?

Yes. This is one of the best series in many years.
