Joanne Zheng: Xiao Bei
Xiao Bei is a woman who dreams of being a famous hairstylist. She's got a gift for drawing beautiful hair styles, but does not have the talent for cutting them. She works for her father at a barbershop that makes enough to survive, but their business was about to crumple when a more modern salon, Neo-Image, moves in across the street. Xiao Bei lost a bet and had to go work there as a hair washer. Ya Si, one of the three main hairstylists, sees potential in her and decides to teach her his skills. Although the two of them hated each other at the beginning, they grew to love each other as time went by, but that did not stop their relationship from its bumpy rides.

Joanne did a good job as Xiao Bei. She did well in the funny scenes and arguing with Ya Si and she could do emotional scenes well too. The outfits are nice too - when she became a real hairstylist, that is. At first her clothes were weird and not very pretty, but then after they looked really nice. So yea, Joanne did a good job.

Ming Dao: Du Ya Si, or Artz
Ya Si is the leader of the three hairstylists at Neo-Image. He has both love and family problems. His dad cheated on his mom with another woman (who turns out to be Xiao Bei's mom that abandoned Xiao Bei when she was little) and six months ago, his mom and his twin brother, Ya Jun, died in a car accident. Ya Si has a grandmother in a nursery home and not wanting to hurt her, he pretended to be Ya Jun and everytime he visits his grandmother as one of the two. Xiao Bei thought he really was Ya Jun when she visit his grandmother and Ya Si learns of Xiao Bei's feelings through this whole trick. Three years ago, Ya Si had a student and they ended up falling for each other. But she left to fulfill her career and hadn't contacted him since. But when Ya Si starts having feelings for Xiao Bei, his girlfriend pops out of nowhere, asking for his forgiveness.

Ming Dao did well. He played an arrogant guy well and has good chemistry with Joanne. He's improved since "Heaven's Wedding Gown." Plus he's hot. I just hate his hair. It looked really stupid. He looked much better in "Heaven's Wedding Gown and "The Prince Turns Into A Frog".

Sam Wang: Lin Er Qi, or Richie
Richie was raised by a gang leader but was kicked out of that gang when he was accused of sleeping with his step-father's fiancee. Richie then joined Neo-Image. But his step-father wanted Richie back and he keeps sending people to attack Richie. Richie meets Xiao Bei and the two of them went out for awhile, but they had troubles in their relationship when Xiao Bei starts having feelings for Ya Si and Richie finds out that he has a son. This son of his was with his ex- girlfriend who left him a long time ago. She died and left his son for Richie's step-father who decided that since he might not see Richie anymore, gave him to Richie. Flung into fatherhood, Richie has to deal with his son and the rumors that was spreading about him and Ke Lan.

Sam is really hot. He was cute in here. I like the fight scenes he's in. Not only did Richie fight with the gang members from his step- father, he also fought with Ya Si, so Sam fought with Ming Dao; that was funny. They just pushed and punched and the boxes were falling down everywhere.

Jacky Zhu: Fei Nan Du, or Fernando
Fernando has a top model for his girlfriend, Ye Ke Lan, and cheated on her. She left him and he tried to win her forgiveness. But Ke Lan was deeply hurt, and uses Richie to annoy Fernando.

One thing I gotta say is that Fernando's outfits are ugly. If they don't have fur on them, then they're low necks and you can see more of his body than you want to. Jacky Zhu did a good job as a player. I didn't see anything wrong, except that he looked fake when he's talking about hair-cutting and being all professional. That's about it.

Lin Meng Jin: Qing Kong
Qing Kong was Ya Si's girlfriend before she left him to build her own sucess. Qing Kong became famous, but in her rush to be sucessful, she hurt her hand and cannot draw or cut hairstyles. Qing Kong came back and stole Xiao Bei's drawings of different hairstyles and won credit for it. Qing Kong came back and although he forgave her and she was his girlfriend again, Qing Kong could tell Ya Si and Xiao Bei liked each other. Qing Kong then tried many ways to prevent them from getting together but she failed and left Neo-Image. Qing Kong showed up again, working for Neo-Image's opposing salon, Amour.

Lin Meng Jin did a good job also. She was good at playing a villian. Even though she was a villian, I didn't hate her. Everything Qing Kong did was understandable; she was just trying to win her love back but instead she's making him sad by her actions. What I don't like is the scenes where Meng Jin's hair was cut in bangs and she curled the bangs up. That was ugly. I didn't like that hairstyle, and I like her better with no bangs. But yea, overall Meng Jin did a good job, you can see the difference in her throughout the series and in the end when she realized that success doesn't make her happy.

Sui Tang: Ye Ke Lan - A top model who left most of her career to be a housewife, Ke Lan worked on rebuilding her career when she left Fernando. Ke Lan started out good, but then she had to take care of Richie's son because Richie's step dad left him to Ke Lan so she can give the boy to his father. Richie's son, feeling abandoned when his father denied him, wanted to jump off a building. Ke Lan left a major conference to save the boy and lost her job. Not only that, the business she worked for was bankrupt because of her and she had many debts. Ke Lan has to start over and with the help of Richie she got a decent modeling job and lived with Richie. Ke Lan likes Richie because he helped her a lot and she and his son got along very well, but Richie is still dating Xiao Bei.

Normally I see Sui Tang as the heroine's enemy or something. This is the first time I saw her as a good person and I like her that way. Sui Tang is really pretty and she acting as a model suits her well. I didn't see any problem with her acting and her clothes were very nice. She and Sam match and including the boy who plays Richie's son, they look like a real family.

Huang Yu Rong: Zhe Ming
Zhe Ming is good at cutting hair, but has horrible styles. He worked for Neo-Image and Qing Khong became his teacher because he's been helping her cut customers' hair whenever her injured hand cannot work. Zhe Ming knew Xiao Bei ever since he was little and he likes her. But he can tell that she likes Ya Si and left it alone. When Amour came along, it sabotages Neo-Image's products and Zhe Ming is accused of harming Neo-Image. Zhe Ming had to leave Neo-Image and joined Amour, not because he was with Amour all along, but he was helping Ya Si by going to Amour and give Qing Kong a hand, which makes false proof of him betraying Neo-Image.

Huang Yu Rong did okay. His character is funny though. I like the part where they first showed him. He was saying he's part of the salon that Xei Biao works at and he showed a tattoo on his arm and he looked really stupid. I didn't like his clothes at the beginning, but since he worked at Neo-Image, his clothes got better. The way Zhe Ming appears in this series isn't enough for me to see that he matured. I'm guessing Zhe Ming is supposed to mature, but all I see is two different Zhe Mings. I don't think that's got anything to do with Yu Rong's acting though.

Comments:

"Magicians of Love" is a good series. It seems fairytale-like. I love the storyline and the characters. My favorite character is Ye Ke Lan. She's a tough lady. Joanne is okay as Xiao Bei, but I'd rather have Jo Chen as Qiao En because I like her with Ming Dao. I didn't like Xiao Bei at first because she's so ignorant but thinks she's really good at cutting hair. I also don't like the fact that Zhe Ming ended up with that stalker, he should've been with Tong Tong or Qing Kong. I like Ye Ke Lan with Richie, they make such a cute couple. And Fernando matches with Emma. To me, when Xiao Bei and Ya Si argue and fight, that's when the chemistry was there. When they were together it was...eh. They were just together. By the middle of "Magicians of Love", I liked Xiao Bei's character because she got less annoying but still a little fiesty. In the end, she just lost her fire.

But overall I really like this series. It's worth the money, but I recommend you rent it because this series is the type of series that is best watched only once.
