Animals have senses more sensitive than than human, they can tell if a harm is approaching and then apply the necessary senses if need be. Animals, basically made full use of their "common senses". If one doesn't spring and give a sudden pat or execute an action that intimidate this mammal with low metabolic rate, I highly doubt it'll get violent them. We leave them alone when they're asleep.... not only Koalas, human get violent too when lack of sleep.
