ooo this will be great thread. Once i get off work, i'll rip a couple of good ones on my list.
the ending of "lofty water verdant bow"
btw what series is that with felix?
I think the best scene TVB ever did was the confrontation between Hui Mun Keung and Ding Lik in THE BUND just before Ding cut Hui's little finger off. That farewell conversation between them was very moving.
Runner up is also from THE BUND: when Hui Mun Keung crashed Ding Lik and Fung Ching Ching's wedding. Classic moment.
Oh man what a scene. I must upload that too tonight. Since we are talking about the Bund, the end where Hui Man Keung wanted Ching Ching to give him a chance AFTER he killed her father. Great scene. CYF just showed why he's a great actor. The tears come out, his mouth trembling. Damn, we just don't get acting like this anymore.
That was a very well executed scene, and it shows how intelligently the director worked it. Notice in this scene: NO BACKGROUND MUSIC. They let the conversation (which includes the silent moments where characters don't talk to each other, but let the silence and their facial expressions talk for them) communicate the emotion of the scene. THAT is art. THAT is subtlety. The usual convention for this kind of scene is to slather it in sentimental background music (to the point that it becomes corny and almost humorous rather than powerful and moving) and have the characters screaming and crying histrionically. In THE BUND scene under discussion here, the director did none of this. It was just brilliant, brilliant directing...very classy, very well done.
Today's TVB directors couldn't touch this scene with a ten foot pole. I'm serious: they should make all of TVB's current directors watch this scene 100 times so show them how to do REAL drama.
No youtube??
Show me the scenes guys!!
I took some time to rip out a few clips. DVD's were easy. Just rip and that's it. Now, those VCD's are a pain in the @$$ because of the dual channely thingy. I had to separate the audio and edit it, so that we only get canto. Then I had to join the video and audio back. Another reason to hate VCD's. Anyways enjoy:

AMAZING scenes right there!!
I love the Hui Man Keung and Ding Lik talk...Classic.
I completely forgot about that Duke of Mount Deer scene where Andy Lau and Tony Leung are bickering at eachother!!!
Instant classic.
Thanks for the upload..All were great.
Chow Yun Fat forever!!!!
QF
Oh My God, I like that scene too. I love the scene when Chow Yun Fat run to the church trying to stop Ching Ching's Wedding. Chow Yun Fat acts very well. It's a classic. k
I love the ending scene in Looking Back in Anger. It's the best ending scene of all HK series I've ever watched.
And one of the best scene ever made in TVB is from The Grand Canal. The ending scene when Tony Leung said farewell to Lau Ching Wan and walked away, Lau Ching Wan said something like "Emperor". I love that scene!
These don't necessary qualify for best scene - but I sure do remember them:
Yang Family Saga - when Tony Leung is tied up on the beach and the enemy starts shooting arrows at him but he wouldn't die until they sliced open his forehead -- the way he just kept laughing
Dai Si Doi - where Lau Ching Wan sits at his desks looking at the pictures of his dead family counting as the Dings jump off the building one by one
(This one I don't remember the show or the guy's name - he was Hua Wu Kuet in Legendary Siblings with Tony Leung) - undercover agent whose life if already a mess and he wants to get out, gets drunk or drugged while undercover and wakes up naked next to a white guy. I'll never forget the pain in his expression when he looks at himself in the mirror.
Somebody upload some more clips
The New Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre 1986 is one of my favorite JY adaptations and theres no HSDS adaptation that can compare with this one.
This is a scene early in the series, nowadays they use cgi or computer to do the calligraphy scene. Or they totally skip this scene. Kenneth Tsang is a great Tse Tsun.

Out of all the Cheung Chui San and Yan So So couple, I see the most chemistry with Simon Yam and Dodo Cheng. BTW, I just love the song played in the background.
