Mysterious TV Series with creepy monster

This TV series was probably made in the 90s. The only thing I remember from it was this huge monster that looks like a tree or Sudowoodo; brownish or some dark color all over. On top of the head was a neck that protruded pretty high and at the peak of the neck was a head that was really freaky looking.

I had nightmares for a while after seeing that thing.

The creature was probably summoned or maybe it just appeared randomly to attack the protagonists' party.

EDIT: The characters and story definitely look like they're part of Wuxia. The monster was in this girl's face at one time and she screamed in terror.
