Best Zhao Min?

There's a thread for best XLN, best HR, I'm not sure if there is a thread for ZM yet, so I'm creating one.

There are debates from random threads throughout spcnet forums, currently in the HSDS 2009 thread on who was the best ZM according to the book. So here I am listing out the poll. I have not watch the Liza Wang's version. I've only watch like 5 minutes of Cecilia Yip's and can't stand it, it was unbearable. I think most of us have watched 3 main versions, Kitty Lai, Gigi Lai & Alyssa Chia. Ady An's version is in the work, so we can't list her in here

So, who was the best ZM? Please give your opinion "I like her b/c she's hot/pretty" is not enough :D

So far I think Kitty Lai and Gigi Lai portrayed ZM very well. The only difference I see between the two is that Gigi is more ruthless and jealous compare to Kitty. But I pick Kitty because her presence shows more elegance and charisma. Another thing is that Kitty looks very handsome as a man and I haven't seen anyone that meets up to her standards except for Ady so far.

I think Liza was the best ZM since she has the acting skills and portrayed the character really well. Kitty was ok, but was not the best in my opinion. Alyssa seemed too "cartoony" as ZM to me. She was cute and all but did not capture all of the ZM characteristics to me. Gigi I didn't watch since the 2000 version does not seem so great(Lawrence as ZWJ, you must be kidding me!!). The Taiwan version was really bad.... The 80s Taiwan version was also bad as well, but I forgot who played ZM.

Couple more ZMs to add to the list!

The 1984 Taiwanese adaptation. ZM was played by Liu Yu Pu. I wasn't aware of this adaptation and im surprised that Liu De Kai played ZWJ before!!

I'm clumsy when it comes to polling, I always forget here and there. I like Sharla, Kitty & Gigi too, maybe Kitty more. Kitty and Tony had an incredible chemistry, Sharla was just too cool and sexy ;)

I don't think you can edit polls once people vote already. Perhaps you should have given the option of OTHER.

I watched the Liu De Kai version as well as the other versions with Kitty Lai, Gigi Lai, and some of Alyssa Chia. I've never seen Lizard Wang's version before.

Wow... some of the ZM are actually really, really unattractive. It could be the makeup or the costume, but cecilia yip is ..eww..

I have not seen all of these ZMS, but I think Gigi and Kitty are the best so far.... Im hoping Ady will not disappoint.

The actor who played ZWJ in Candice Yu's version is Derek Yee. He's a director now, used to date Maggie Cheung, younger brother of Paul Chun and David Chiang. Just realize that in this version, Derek Yee is 20 years old, Candice 16 (she played ZZR) and the actress playing ZM is 27!

Though ZM has never been a character I like, my fav is Sharla's portray.

Yes, I think this thread is to be included in "Wuxia Fiction"

I must say Kitty is by far the best ZM and will always be my favourite. Her portrayal had the mixture of everything. She had the charm, beautiful, witty and inteligent looks presented. Just to my preference, she wasn't as arrogant as other portrayals.

Gigi was good and perhaps fitted best to the description of look wise. But her portrayal isn't my favourite because she's too rutheless and arrogant for my liking. She emphasized on those aspects too much.

Alyssa Chia was great as well but too cartoony. I think her and Kitty's portray would have been better if they both showed more power in their hands like Gigi's.

The rest, I have no comment.

I bet you think Kitty is the best because you have not seen Liza and others yet. I think you would change your mind if you saw Liza and others too.

I've seen Sharla's movie version and some bits of the 1993 adaption. I don't think I'll ever get the chance to watch the 1979 version as it's so rare. I didn't like Cecelia's portrayal at all. Sharla was alright but despite of that, I still perfer Kitty Lai.

I only saw the 1986 version with Kitty Lai. The TV series was pretty good, except for the costumes. Kitty Lai also did a good job.

No wonder you still like Kitty the most. You have not seen Liza yet. Liza is the BEST Zhao Min ever in my opinion.. I think she captured the character better than anyone that I have seen so far. The 78 version was released on VCD so you can see it if you really wanted to. But then again, you have to be able to understand Chinese if you want to enjoy it...

Nice, i just picked up the HSDS 78 version. Can't wait to watch it now! I'm looking forward to Zhao Min...

Just found out the series is only 25 eps, did they cut out the parents part? or did they just move very fast?

Well if it is on VCD, then it is definately cut. I saw way back on VHS and didn't watch the VCD version so I am not sure about the parents part being cut or not. However, VCDs are always cut.

I thought Liza did the best, but that is my opinion. You may or may not think so. My mom has read the novel and is VERY picky about performances even said that Liza is the best ever.

Actually I voted for Alyssa Chia 2003.

With Yukee Chan in 2019, I wonder she will win over Kitty Lai.
