I grew up watching both these ladies portraying Wu ZeTian.

Alyssa Chia's portrayal seem more like the extra romanticized version and doesn't seem at all accurate. I' haven't seen Zhang Ting's version yet.
Out of all the ones that I've seen, my favorite is Pan Ying Zi. She's beyond gorgeous, and that picture up there does her no justice.

Oh geez, Jadebunny! What do you mean the pictures above doesn't do her any justice? It does do her justice as a fierce and intelligent female ruler and I also posted the picture of her portraying Wu ZeTian's daughter Princess Tai Ping. :p

Yeah, I like Pan Yin Tze's version, but I also like the themesongs and songs from the ATV version with Petrina Fung Bobo. Teresa Cheung Tak Lan sings the songs to the ATV one.

Mine is Liu Xiao Qing in the classic 1995 version of "Wu Ze Tian." The worst has got to be Alyssa Chia in "Zhi Zun Hong Yan" - she's like the teenybopper version of Wu Mei Niang. Ugh.
Liza Wang also took on the role of Wu Ze Tian. Don't know what the title is, but John aka David Chiang was also in it. The story was not the typical WZT series portraying her from a teenager to fierce ruler. She was already crowned as Emperor.
Anyway, I watched several versions, but based on my foggy memory, my current favorite is Pan Yin Tze. I don't remember much about the others, so if I have the chance, I would love to rewatch them. I've seen clips of Alyssa in the role, but it she was too weepy for my taste.
Both hands up for Petrina as fierce and seductive Wu Ze Tian! Never saw Pan Yin Tze version but I have seen clips and she looks great. Liu Xiao Qing overacts and so does Siqin Gaowa. Zhang Ting and Alyssa's versions are too tame.
That was "Geng Fah Yuen" or Mirror Flower Destiny, a complete CGI-fest which nevertheless had some good moments amidst the boredom, and had quite a few ATV actors in it to. Not sure if it was a collaboration project. I recall being completely turned off by Lau Yee Tat's acting skills (or lack of them).Quote:
