to overcare about every little detail
I gave a crude description; I am looking for an expression consisting of 1 or 2 words...
Sorry about the confusion.
xin xiong xia zhai = petty? narrow-minded?
jing jing ji jiao = fussy? nit-picky?
I believe the word you're looking for is Meticulous.
me·tic·u·lous (m-tky-ls)
adj.
1. Extremely careful and precise.
2. Extremely or excessively concerned with details.
Variation of the word-
me·ticu·losi·ty (-ls-t), me·ticu·lous·ness n.
me·ticu·lous·ly adv.
Synonyms: Punctilious, Precise, Fastidious, painstaking, careful, scrupulous

Meticulous is a more positive word...while nit-picky is negative. Jing Jing Ji Jiao is kind of negative.
I've used meticulous before in interviews to describe myself...but never nit-picky haha.
Meticulous has a positive connotation to it though. 'Jing jing ji jiao' has a somewhat negative connotation.
Hehe, didn't realize roses posted too. Actually, the primary meaning of scrupulous is 'honest' or 'possessing moral integrity', so it definitely has a positive connotation as well.
Let's stick with nitpicky :p

Calculative.Quote:
jing jing ji jiao
I thought calculative is more like "Jian Zha".
jian zha is more of... scheming.
New question: how to say 小气 and 大方 in English?
小气 is similar to "petty".
大方 is similar to "generous" if you want it to be the opposite of 小气.
Sometimes, people say that a person's dressing is 大方, which basically goes along the lines of being appropriate (tasteful) for the (usually grand) occasion.
