AFAIK, Nearly all the protagonist of Jin Yong's story is an orphan (of some sort). Is there any hint in any Jin Yong's life or interview that hint about why is this so?

He was a huge fan of Charles Dickens, who famously explored this motif in several of his major novels, including David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, and Great Expectations. If you read Dickens' novels, you find that they have a "Jin Yong" feel in terms of story and character development (or, to be more accurate, Jin Yong's novels have a Dickensian feel in these areas, as Dickens preceded Jin Yong by an entire century).
1) Thanks Ken.
Is there any interview or articles that JY acknowledges western literature as his inspirations?
2) JY also borrows from Dumas's work.
Is there any strong theme from Dumas that JY had adapted for his other stories, apart from Link City?

I think that I read an interview in which Jin Yong said something about "having no parental dependency" gives more freedom to write the characters. I mean, imagine somebody like Guo Polu as a main character :p
