Lets create a list of participants and their roles in the novel.
Everyone ok with early Ming? - waning of Ming sect, government trying to gain control of wulin?
Need cristal entity to reply and put things in his/her first post for easy referencing.
which would mean that this RPG would continue from RPG2?
to answer druid's question, I'm in
Since so many of you are requesting the RPG to be put in the early Ming Dynasty, I've made a proposal (well kinda) for the current wulin events and the backbone of our story:
Yuan Dynasty ends, Ming Dynasty starts
Zhang Wuji and Zhao Min disapears
Zhou Zhirou stays the leader of ErMei Sect
Zhu Yuanzhang persecutes the Ming Cult; most of the cult has either died or have been captured
Xiao Zhao from the Persian Ming Cult heard of the incidents and decides to send people over to help the Ming Cult in central plains.
Everyone has lost interest in HS and DS because they have more important things to worry about: their lives
Wulin people have to avoid being captured by Ming Soldiers sent by Zhu Yuanzhang and Mongolians who are currently still posing a threat
From Yittz:
I can't think of anymore for now. If you have any ideas please post it so we can discuss adding more to the story.
Nice continuing on: (although with Zhu Yuanzhang, I prefer him doing it using underhand/strategy methods to control wulin, he won't let the whole wulin know he antagonise them - maybe hirer assassins to kill important heads in secrecy or ploys to get wulin to attack each other).
Shaolin - in a state of recovery post Zhao Min destruction - any shaolin disciples?
Wudang - death of Z3F, 2nd hero Yu leads - anyone want to be wudang disciple?
Er mei - ZZR as you mentioned
Kong dong - refinement of 7 injury fist - any volunteers to be an aspiring Kongdong disciple
Kunlun - new leadership, restoration of glory to He Zudao days
Hua Shan - rise to power leader of the newly risen 5 sword sects
Beggar clan - trying to survive - anyone want to learn dragon palms?
Ming cult - getting screwed over by court, Yang Xiao's death, new fighters from Persia, friction with rest of wulin (any Persian volunteers?)
Courts - who wants to be the eunich that becomes the inventor of the famed Sunflower scroll? or was that in Yuan dynasty ??
I guess most of us can be non-affiliated. Just some ideas. I volunteer to be an assassin.
Can this be RPG be non-JIN YONG/GU LONG based?
yeah i'd rather we not base it on jin yong or gu long
I'm so tempted to use my twins from RPG2 again..:)
So is the RPG going to be based on Jin Yong, a sequel to RPG #2 or what?
I agree with resident:alien and Allen D. I also prefer it to be non-jin yong or gu long base.
Don't care, my character in mind not plot dependent.
Someone just make some background plot up. JY was just easy to do.
I don't really care if it's JY or GL-based but I thought it'd be better if most of us are familar with the setting. We're not actually going to be using any JY characters though. We'll be adapting the Sects and Cults but we're going to have anything to do with the characters really. What do you guys think?
If we use the setting of JY's universe, that's fine. I just don't want any JY characters playing major roles.
I'm cool with either...
To kidd... anything=) seriously anything... lets see the votes 1st k?:)
This is going nowhere as of now...
Can we quicken up the pace?
Hey I don't mind playing! :D
But hopefully a supporting or minor role, pls. No more Big Bad Boss for me! :p
Can I be Zhuang Zheng, GOLDEN VIGOR BANNER LEADER Zhuang Zheng?
(who miraculously came back from the dead)
What needs to be done to quicken up the pace?Quote:

Rules are not that important as I believe all eligible participants have probably participated in a RPG before. They should know what to do and what not to do.
I believe we should first compile of list of who is participating. This would make it neater and less confusing. We would then start working on the plot. Then, we should proceed to set some basic guidelines as agreed on by all players.
TommyH, as impatient as before, and lost interest as quickly. :p
I don't mind playing a good guy or bad guy, as long as I'm NOT a main character. :p
Also, I don't mind helping out in the overall plot development, if anyone needs me. :D
Please! If we use the end of HSDS as our main plot then maybe you could be a new Kongtong Sect leader or something like that. What do you think? You could appear out of nowhere and then disappear again, a mysterious character maybe? But I'd much rather you have a supporting role at least.
If we base it on JY, can I be a descendant of YG please? I am an avid fan of YG! :)
If not, then I will have other ideas for my character.
So this RPG will continue from HSDS and end where RPG 2 left off?

Lets just take a vote: someone develop a non-JY background story so we can vote on it.
We can still have famous sects like Shaolin, Wudang, Kunlun, Ermei and in early Ming. Just no relation to HSDS. So we are not tied down by anything.
Hey kwekmh, if you are going to be from AT sect I want to be too. How old is your character?
That means no references to JY/GL/RPG 1,2,3 whatever?
And how 'grand' is this story gonna be? The whole of China again? :p
I have already expressed my interest in participating. I want to play a minor character.
If it sets in the beginning of Ming Dynasty then I'm willing to take some Mongolian role. I assume during that time Mongolians were still a treat.
DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE ALL JUST ROUGH IDEAS, AND ARE DEFINITELY OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS AND INTERPRETATIONS. ALL I'M TRYING TO DO IS GET THE BALL ROLLING HERE -- PLEASE POST IF THERE'S ANYTHING NOT TO YOUR LIKING, OR IF YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONS TO MAKE. -six.
From reading the Wikipedia entry on the Ming Dynasty, there seems to be some interesting elements in history that we can take advantage of. I'm going to compile some of the more storybook elements together, along with some suggested "character classes".
I suggest we start at the end of the Yuan dynasty in the year 1352, as we can take advantage of Zhu YuanZhang's rise to power as a plot device.
The story can be split into 3 distinct parts, with these main plot points:
I. The end of Yuan dynasty - the rise of Zhu YuanZhang and his rival, Chen Youliang
II. Open Rebellion - Zhu's Capture of Nanjing, Guangzhou, and finally Beijing
II. The Mandate of Heaven - The establishment of the Ming Dynasty after the liberation of China
-----
Part I :: The End of Yuan Dynasty.
Cultural Climate:
This is a time of revolution. Crops are failing, overtaxing and flooding is rampant, and the government is losing control, opening the way for multiple groups of Han Chinese to revolt -- including the mysterious White Lotus Society of Buddhist monks. The Yuan Dynasty banned the White Lotus Society years ago for being a heretic religion, forcing its followers underground. The White Lotus Society has become a rallying symbol for the women and poor of China, as well as the home of the Red Turbans, a political faction within the society.
Out of the rebel groups, two great powers have emerged: Zhu YuanZhang, the young commander of the Red Turbans, and Chen Youliang, leader of the Dahan rebels and Zhu's chief rival in the south. Popular support among the people is rising for Zhu, who adheres to the White Lotus teachings and forbids his soldiers to pillage. However, Chen's military power is strong, and has proclaimed himself "King of Hans" while basing himself in Jiangzhou.
In later years, the Red Turbans, under the leadership of Zhu, will send their rebel armies to capture Beijing -- but for now, history is yet undecided and both leaders are amassing power in the south.
Suggested characters: Red Turban rebel (Zhu ally), Dahan rebel (Chen ally), Mongol soldier, Yuan Dynasty Official (evil)
Note: These character origins help to advance plot, and while suggested, are not completely necessary. If you feel that a wulin character is better (great example: Broken Sword in "Hero") then by all means, create that character. That being said, I think it's no problem to introduce some kung-fu with these rebels, as this is a wuxia story after all -- I mean, how are you gonna overthrow an emperor without some sweet palm skills? (Or sword skills, realistically...)
---
How's that for a start? I'd like to hear all of your suggestions on whether this type of background is too historically based, and you all would prefer a wulin-centered story instead.
