Kekeke... Hello Mrs. Robinson.. :D
Reading:
- "Shopaholic & sister" by Sophie Kinsella, will recommend "Can You Keep A Secret" for people who like the Shopaholic series
- "Chainfire" by Terry Goodkind, book 9 of Sword of Truth ...... OR book 1 of Chainfire trilogy. This is it folks. The end of this long journey (9 years!) is in sight ... 2 more books!
Jeffrey Archer's prison diaries.
Up to volume 2: purgatory.
I'm just starting Shopaholic and Sister. :D I know it will be as good as the previous 3.
Started on "Who Moved My Cheese?" By Spencer Johnson.
I don't read much normally, but I've been reading the Chinese ghost/mystery story "sui lian" (shattered face). I stumbled upon it while checking out a Jin Yong story on a site. The story was so popular on the net that a publisher actually bought the rights from the author and published it.
The story is about a mystery surrounding a med school where each year a student will jump to her death from the same room on the same date, and the victims all visited the campus morgue (where body parts are stored for study and dissection) after midnight.
It's actually very well written except for a few minor spots. Only half of the story is on the net, you have to buy the book to finish the story.
The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen by Lloyd Alexander.
I'm trying to finish off "Grass for his Pillow" and start "Brilliance of the Moon" both by Lian Hearn.
Eh half of the time, I feel that this author is too wordy with all these details and unneccessary scenes(flowery embellishments) in his books. It's safe to say sometimes i fall asleep while reading his Otori Tales Trilogy. The story is interesting but the way he writes it and chooses to tell the story just bores me to tears. Why am I still reading it then? Just hoping it gets better some how.
Perfume by Patrick Suskind. I'm halfway through it. Its pretty good. About this French guy who was born without scent. However, his sense of smell is really acute and can smell everything. Anyway, talks about how he murders people to get their scent. Its been highly recommended by heaps of people.
Just finished Iris Chang's Thread of the Silkworm. It's about Tsien Hsue-shen, a scientist who was targeted in the U.S. during the Red Scare and was deported back to China. He then became the father of China's aeronautics program. It's a good read. I was quite inspired by this.
Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Da Vinci's Code. I must be the only one in the world that has not read it. Everywhere I go, (in the trains, busses), i see people reading it. I'm nearly towards the end of the book and seriously, I dont get what the hype is all about.
Don't worry, I haven't read it either so your not the last person reading it.Quote:

I'm reading a book, written by a Germany author called *The Shadow Game*. The book is translated
It's a sci-fictional book dealing with computer!
Haha bebe_girl, are you reading Shopaholic Takes Manhattan? Becky Bloomwood's image reminds me of Anne Hathaway. They are like, identical in my imagination.Quote:

bebe_girl, does Becky Bloomwood the character annoy and irritate you in the first 2 books?
she did a couple of times like when she kept feeling sorry for herself after that article came out and just sometimes when she secretly shops. I espeically love that part when she accidently blurted out that she bought that scarf and how she said her aunt died.Quote:

just managed to get 'shopoholic and her sister' at a steal of $13 instead of $17..
curently reading several at one shot:
Sophie Kinsella - Shopoholic and sis
Dave Peltzer - my story
Candice Bushnell - Trading Up
anna karenina by tolstoy. don't like the ending, but i guess it's necessary. though if it was up to me, i'd do happy ending for all!! :D and very wordy. goes into lots of unnecessary details. i don't need to know what a minor character's dog was thinking when he was going to fetch a bird that was just shot out of the sky.
I know what I'm not reading anymore, Lian Hearn's Otori Trilogy. I was close at finishing the 2nd book but I just can't stand the way he writes! I don't know why theres so many good reviews on it, it's too wordy with flowery embellishments, it drags on and on and the main character Takeo is a jerk. Kaede is a naive woman that have faith in Takeo too much when he's eh....stupid books. So no I'm not reading these books anymore. Waste of time. You know if the book is good or bad by the speed people read it. If it's good then you'll read it real fast and finish reading it very fast too. But if it's not good, then you'll take real long to read it.
Suet Seung, I gotta agree with you about the series. For certain reasons, I find myself struggling to finish the second book even though it's SO SHORT! The first book was fine, but there was something really wrong with the second one. I guess it's probably cos' I'm finding it increasingly difficult to relate to the characters (a necessity when reading books that are light in plot and heavier in character development)
BTW: Lian Hearn's a woman.
Really? I could've sworn She's a he with the way she writes Takeo's character and the Lord Fujiwara or something and his lover Mamoru. I swear she uses many names from anime characters or something. I'm not sure if it's the era or because of her...but the men in the book are such arses and womanizing. I'm like near end of the 2nd book and I can't bring myself to read a page more. I give up on reading her book. It just sucks. Although I like the twist that Takeo is really Shigeru's nephew....it just that LH just takes her time with the description and adding all these flowery scenes and whatever but fail at entertaining and keeping the readers interested and amused with suspense and twists. Half of the time I'm bored to death with oh Kaede's worrying about Takeo again. oh no theres more suitors at the door where is Takeo? :rolleyes:Quote:

okay Becky is REALLY annoying me. Just make up your mind where you want the wedding and tell everyone. So irresponsible and careless.
The Chinese in America by Iris Chang.
Oh yeah. I forgot about the whole wedding thing. I don't even want to think about how fustrated I was when she kept on lying and pretend everything was fine. But read on to the end when it gets better.
The Mysteries of Sherlock Holmes, in Chinese
Yeah, Lian Hearn's a pen name for um... something else. She was a children's writer, I believe, so maybe the transition to older readers might not be so smooth for her.Quote:

I finished it last night, stayed up until 1:00 reading it, so tired. I have to say Luke, he sounds so perfect to be true. Like every girl's dream guy. Rich, handsome, built, charming etc. lol I love guys who often keeps a straight face, and hard to tell how they're feeling. :D It's a good series i'd give it an 8/10.Quote:
