Currently serving military service SSH is enjoying explosive popularity in Japan.
Following the planned launch of SSH postage stamps and picture book, regarding the copyright of his drama/movie upon his army discharge in Nov 2006 has caused big emphasis in Japan.
Recently, more than 10 Japan production companies had joined in the competition to bid for SSH's drama/movie copyright. SSH's company said that when SSH completed military service in Nov 2006, plans for his filming of drama/movie in Dec/Jan 2007 is currently in preparation stage.
On this subject matter, Japan's Kopan Production executive said on 5 Sept that "although SSH is currently in the military, his popularity in Japan is growing stronger. as long as he is starring in any drama or movie, they are determined to get the copyright irregardless of its price. SSH is a growing suspense in Japan and his popularity has never cooled down."
SSH's postage stamps will be launch in Japan soon. In addition his picture book (a collection of his images before enlistment) is also scheduled to be released. SSH's products is in high demand in Japan.
According to sources, Japan NHK TV is planning to telecast SSH & SYJ's KBS 2TV drama Summer Scent when he completed military in 2006 autumn. Initially NHK has scheduled to telecast Summer Scent in summer this year, but due to his enlistment the plan has been postponed.
A reflection of SSH's popularity in Japan: NHK had in Oct 2004 planned for a series of programs in connection to Tiger Wood's visit to Japan. However due to his enlistment all plans were cancelled. Tiger Woods heard about SSH from his mum and had contacted SSH's company to arrange a golf meet during his Japan tour.
SSH's KBS 2 TV drama series "Autumn Tale" (2001) and "Summer Scent" had made him the pioneer Hallyu wave top star. Although both dramas have not been telecasted by Japan TV, but there is a great possibility that both dramas will.
SSH's company Poibos GM's director Mr Kim said "Japan's Kopan, Hori etc. have made numerous queries to SSH's drama/movie plans. Some proposals even mentioned that as long as SSH will star in a drama or movie, the copyright can quote as high as JPY10m (KW100m)."
Mr Kim added that "plans for SSH's drama is being carried out. Various popular Japanese actress have also verbally agreed to co-star in the drama. It will be a beautiful love story in foreign land and is planned for Dec 2006/Jan 2007."
SSH is said to be leading and adapting well to army life, as well as being a role model.
His company also said that they submitted application for the Publicity recruitment in June on his behalf whereby SSH has no desire. SSH turned down the opportunity as he has decided to continue to serve in his unit. SSH now goes to church every week in the military and also asks his peers to join him.

Making #3 SSH used no substitute: 1 against 13 in fighting scene
In preparation of the role of Ji Eun-sung, SSH had to lose 5kg in two weeks' time. In order to display lifelike fighting movements, he practised hard in martial arts lessons, sometimes getting bruises. About half a month before actual shooting, he joined the other co-stars for tedious training at a martial arts school. Although the training time was short, his acting skills were highly appraised.
The objective of the training was to prove that the fighting scene of SSH against 13 others were real and not by substitute. In this scene, SSH not only has to fight against 13 other technical high school students, he also had to perform a 540-degree rollover tough movement. Staff who regularly performed such movement and suffered injury, were impressed and praised SSH for his ability to complete the task.
His revolving kick in the air didn't look like a first-timer, nor his punch shown in a haste. The staff started to suspect SSH "maybe....?"
"In my schooldays I had zero fighting experience" SSH said. Not forgetting to show his mischief by emphasizing his chest he said "I only didn't have to chance to show it, I'm actually skillful in actions."
This is a totally different image of him as compared to his past image of a gentle and romantic guy. It is a new discovery of SSH's image been seen as an attractive cold-blooded figure.
Making #4 SSH jumped into the winter sea
After the shooting of "The Cool Guy", we asked SSH which was his most unforgettable scene. He told us it was the scene where they recalled how his senior was drown at sea. It was during last year's winter time when there had been cold current alert on the shooting day, and they spent one full day shooting at the beach.
Another unforgettable scene was the kissing shoot. He was too tired that he actually fell asleep during filming of the scene. For this he felt apologetic to his co-star JDB.
However, the beach scene which he put in the most efforts was only briefly shown in the movie. In reality this scene took almost 4 days to complete. In the scene, SSH had to jump into the sea baretop. But the filming took place during the coldest month of November. In addition, there were cold current alert which was unavoidable.
At that time, SSH told himself that he would do it in one shot, but it took 3 shots to complete where he had to jump into the sea for three times. He asked help from the director numerous times (begging to let him off), but the director did not take his words to heart. Finally the filming ended at the 3-4th time of SSH jumping into the sea.
As SSH recalled those days, he said "at that time I really didn't want to see the director anymore (laugh). jumping into the winter sea is my first time, and especially tough when the weather starts to get cold. upon knowing that the director had arranged this scene, I had the feeling of hatred (laugh). But when I saw the movie clip after the filming, I then realise why he can be the director. The feeling was absolutely different."
