What are peoples thoughts on Anita Yuen? What is she up to today? Anyone have any interesting pictures of her? :)

Lady Zhuge 10-28-04 11:22 AM

The first thing I think of when I see Anita Yuen's name is: *Julian Cheung's girlfriend*, followed immediately by *lucky*!!! ;):D I've never seen any of her series or movies, so I'm not sure how her acting is. Quite a few people seem to agree that she is underrated, though.

What are some of her best series/performances? How is that serial "Hua Mulan"?

Brothergerr 10-28-04 12:35 PM

I have not seen her in Hua Mulan, but I have seen her in some of her movies and I think that she is best in a romantic comedy role, such as "He's a Woman, She's a Man" with Leslie Cheung, she was also in Thunderbolt with Jackie Chan. I have seen her in State of Divinity 2000 (the Taiwan version) playing Ren Ying Ying.

I think that she can be very funny while at the same time express deep emotions.

:)

Ah, but I do have a soft spot for Anita Yuen. Hua Mu lan was the series that I first saw her. Since then I've seen her in two other series shown on ATV. I really enjoyed her Mulan. She was very natural, very funny and very pretty with that flawless complexion of hers. I recalled laughing heartily at all her antics. Indeed, Hua Mu lan was a fun series for me and my family to watch. I though she and Zheng Pei Pei’s chemistry was excellent.

Anita has what I would call a screen presence, her ability to connect her audience with her characters. Her characters radiate an uprightness intermingled with an endearing vulnerability. Too bad, her talents are shortchanged by weak and commercialized scripts.

As for her other series, can't remember much about them - the scripts were weak, but still I'd enjoyed both her performances. One was about her being an imposter pretending to be the long lost 'grandson' of a tycoon. It was funny in a cliché contrived way, hence, forgettable, so much so that I can't even recalled its title.

As for the other series, she is a hard-up lawyer caught between the laws and her conscience - its script was too overly saccharine and incredulous - the courtroom scenes were overdramatic and insulted the intelligence of its viewers. Sorry can't remember its title, either. Felix Wong was in it, too, if that helps.

Brothergerr 10-28-04 03:17 PM

It is those eyes of hers that seem to convey her emotions. When her character has to be sad, her eyes seems to cry out with unexpressible sorrow and when her character is funny or happy, then they light up her face and as well as that smile of hers. As you can probably tell, I do have a soft spot of Anita Yuen. :)

In terms of movies, "He's a Woman, She's a Man" was the one that really launched her I think. In it she plays happy and sad and I think that it is one movie where her talent shines through, definitely one to watch. I always enjoyed her prefromance in that.

Unfortunately I have not seen any of her TV work, but thats what I get for living in Ireland. :(

"Gu Lian Hua"- Anita's latest tv series

Hey, check out this link: http://www.tsaofilms.com/
It's the official website for Anita's latest Taiwanese tv series, "Gu Lian Hua" ("Loving Flower in Lonesome"..sori, cldn't think of a gd translation)...can d/l clips of this lovely movie too...Anita looks simply gorgeous in cheongsam.

It will have a movie version too.
It's based on Bai Xian Yong's novel of the same name. Anita plays Yun Fang, a leading dance hostess in a Shanghai nightclub. Angelicia Li Sin jie plays Wu Bao, her love interest (yeh, there's a a passionate kissing scence bet the 2 of them.) But Wu BAo fell in love with a young musician. At last, sufferring from injury, she dies in Anita's arms, while fleeing the war.

As the story spans fr the 1940's to 1960's, it also touches on the WW2 and how Anita had to flee to Taiwan cos of the war. There, she's relegated to a songstress at a pub. She met another young woman, Juan Juan, played by Taiwanese actress, Xiao SuZhen. It reminds her of Wu Bao & Anita also fell in love with her.

Anita's character fell in love with women 'cos having seen all kinds of men, she was disappointed with men.
:)
