Yah her ZM was quite flat. I think Jet Li's movie version's ZM was a more typical ZM of the scheming persona and selfish princess used to getting everything her way. Too bad that movie's Part 2 was never completed.

Alyssa wasn't cunning and witty enough and pretty much carried her sweet and adorable smiles through most scenes; even the ones which required her to be somewhat evil, like threatening to chop off fingers and disfigure ZZR. She looked like a cheeky 5-yr old up to mischief instead of a vicious young lady. I think it's something abt her eyes which seem to be twinkling and smiling constantly such that she doesnt seem very serious in certain scenes which require her to do so; in short, she's too soft for ZM. She would be perfect in roles like GX or Ah Zhu.

Yes! Sharla Cheung was a brilliant ZM. She didn't care for all that cuteness and went all out to portray ZM as an intelligent and devious character. She had the royal air of a princess and arrogance when she spoke. I thought Jet Li was a great ZWJ as well. He had the heroic spirit and blurness about him and it helped that he did his own stunts. jet li was the mold for me when i first saw HSDS.

he was a more playful yet naive ZWJ as evidenced by his scenes with ZX(when they first fall off the cliff together) and Z3F (after YSS and ZCS commit suicide).

It was supposed to be a 2-part movie and there was a strong focus on ZWJ and ZM relationship so ZWJ did not end up looking like a wishwashy flirt. Jet Li's ZWJ was a morally upright and responsible young man and did not flirt with XZ at all so it was basically a love triangle. Even then his relationship with ZZR was not played up. It was easier to accept the idea of him being with ZM in the end.
But too bad, no part 2. Sammo as Z3F is to me the best Z3F always.

jet li's version showed him liking xz a lot...don't you remember the scene where he tried to hold her hand but ended up holding an old lady's hand by mistake. it was obvious that he had feelings for xz...and seeing how they changed the storyline, i would not be surprise if jet li's version had him torn between zm and xz since zzr was made to be evil from the beginning of the movie. and also, jet li's version showed him to be power hungry, which is very uncharacteristic of zwj.

i enjoyed the movie adaptation but it was even more unfaithful to the novel than the 2003 series, particularly the characterization of the main characters.

Was watching HSDS 03 and reached the part where ZWJ was learning the 9 Yan Zhen Jin and the background flute piece was from ZJZ's LOCH HYS' flute playing.

Sorry getting back into the scene of watching wuxia. Just finished HSDS '03 and I have a few questions. I tried searching the forums to no avail.

In episode 38: Who was that girl (who was surrounded by a bunch of lil' girls playing flute) that destroyed Zhou Zhi Ruo in a fight. Supposedly this girl knew the correct version of the kung fu that Zhou Zhi Ruo learnt.

I'm just confused how she randomly appears and was taking care of the girl w/ the green beggar stick.
