In HSDS, there's no mentioned of Quan Zhen Sect? it was 100 years ++ from ROCH to HSDS, did the sect died out or something? lol

Quan Zhen was already in a decline by ROCH as none of their masters were comparable to their founder. However, Wu Dang was in the ascendancy in HSDS due to Z3F being undefeatable by anyone.

The novel actually begins with a poem (about Xiaolongnu) supposedly written by Quanzhen's old firestarter Qiu Chuji. Guo Xiang also flaunts a few Quanzhen skills. Other than these, no mention whatsoever. [The adaptation skips these bits, anyway.] In the HSDS era, I don't know whether Quanzhen had died out (although historically, they were apparently still around), but they'd ceased to be a significant force in wulin, and Wudang had sort of taken Quanzhen's place as the top 'altruistic' school in jianghu.

Jin Yong has a pessimistic view about the longevity of martial institutions. By the end of HSDS, none of the top schools appear to have a particularly bright future, all having suffered a lot of (often partially self-inflicted) disaster during the story. I think this is some sort of comment on Chinese history.

Yeah, and while sharing the horse with Zhang Wuji, too...

I think most of the budget in HSDS03 went towards the all-star main cast rather than decent production values. For instance, did anyone notice that the actress who played E'Mei's ill-fated Jingxu (the one who got sucked dry by Wei Yixiao) turned up later on in the series as Lord Ruyang's concubine (the one who the Xuanminger Lu Zhangke lusted over)? Or am I just imagining things?

All these little slips don't really matter as long as the series is successful overall. Despite the sometimes appalling directing & acting, HSDS03 worked well as fizzy-pop Jin Yong-lite: fun, cute & colourful, and probably very appealing for younger viewers and anyone not looking for a 'heavyweight' adaptation.

I also think that the changes made to the novel - e.g. fast-forwarding through the early chapters, and expanded roles for the girls - were in principal pretty good. Your move, Zhang Jizhong.

there were a lot of things you could nitpick.

such as the scene where ZWJ jumps into the pagoda and finds where his WUDANG people are. the chain on the door, if you noticed, is unlocked.

you can also see some stunt doubles for MIEJUE when ZWJ as at guangming peak and they are fighting.

another scene is when ZZR stabbed ZWJ. She stabbed him in the upper left chest, yet he is clutching is right.
