i agree...this wuxia series is more of a love story...but if that's the case then roch06 should not even be considered wuxia.

HSDS lacked fight scenes... good fight scenes
the only thing that kept me watching was the brilliant female cast

i thought the chemistry between the leads was pretty convincing if not fantastic...and good acting on the entire cast parts. everyone looked great! yes, the good fighting sequences were lacking with prolonged romance but i enjoyed it nevertheless. better than what i can say for other series.

it was certainly enjoyable because of the acting from most of the cast...
Alec has such great chemistry with practically every female actress he works with Vicki, Ruby, Chae Rim, Alyssa, Florence... he's one lucky guy

this was the first HSDS series that i saw. and when i compared it with the movie version...i was disappointed in the fight scenes as well.

the whole six schools vs ming sect felt more epic, more emotional in the movie version. in the '03 series, it's barely there.

i gave up on the movie version... Charmaine... bleh

i prefer the 86 version overall. Had solid cast, followed the novel, fight scenes were fine considering it was made 20 years ago.

lol...charmaine is certainly blah but she wasn't in the movie version.
it was chingmy and gigi lai who were leads but the movie really butchered the novel to bits...but the fighting scene in the movie was excellent.

charmaine...i only had to look at her face for 10 minutes and gave up on hsds 2000 all together because of her...not because of lawrence.

yeah, the movie version butchered the story like a slaughterhouse. there were so many missing characters and what not and yeah everything changed. which makes me wonder about the SHAW BROS version w/DEREK YEE and CANDICE YU.

anyway, the next HSDS should have the battles between the six schools and ming sect be more on a larger epic scale. i like the movie's concept of the five flags, because they were differentiated by colors.

hmmm, you'll probably end up watching gu long/ken's new series as well. because what if it's good and you might miss it.

i actually enjoyed the movie version with jet li and chingmy yau! she was so cute! yes the story was butchered but the cast was great. i only understood the story after watching half and reading the plot from here.

i read somewhere that the movie sequel was done shooting with the exception of one scene but since it did so bad at the box office, they stopped.

i would actually love to see the sequel...wouldn't miss out on chingmy as xiao shao and the fightings.

The spider girl called the leader of Emei sect "ni ku" which is used by common folks to call Buddhist nuns. So that makes Emei a Buddhist sect and not Taoist as Taoist would be called Dao chan or Dao shi.

I didnt know there was a movie version of hsds overall i enjoyed this version mainly because of the cast like many of you have said and i think i would most likely be watching the remake as well
