Alyssa is cute, but in my eyes, i thought Kitty Lai was a cuter Zhou Min from the HSDS-1986 series.

As for Zhou Min character, Alyssa also was as good as Kitty Lai in the role. Perhaps it's not Alyssa's fault, but I find that the Zhou Min character in the 2003 series a bit immature. She smirks and smiles too much, so much so that it's hard to take her seriously, and because of her excessive smirkings, it's hard to take her love for Wuji to be serious and one get a sense that their love is a boy-girl love rather than a sacrificed-at-all-cost love.

Kitty Lai in 1986 played a much more balanced Zhou Min. I'm a guy and a few times I actually dropped tears watching Kitty Lai act the role of Zhou Min. Not sure why I dropped tears, it was an involuntarily reaction, but perhaps the 1986 Zhou Min struck a chord in my subliminal cortex that triggered the tears. At any rate, I was able to identify with the 1986 Zhou Min much much more than the 2003 Zhou Min. Or I could just be a wet blanket?!

And also, the 1986 series had a better overall supporting cast. However, the one thing I absolutely like about he 2003 series is the more emphasis on the Chow Chi Yeurk character, like telling us how she is forced to bear a heavy burden of carrying out her cold master, and through this burden, we can see how she is suffering. And it's great to see this.

btw, I understand about 30% of the mandarin spoken, and about 70% of the vietnamese spoken (in vietnamese dubbing). I sense that the vietnamese dubbing from the 1986 series is much more "romantic" (if you will) and fluid than the viet dubbing in the 2003 series. It's fascinating sometimes watching the a paritular asian film from on language being dubbed into another language. You always left wondering if that's what the actors and actresses meant to say.

Agree, 1986 HSDS is the best. Tony Leung and Kitty Lai are great.
I'm still looking for the series to be my collection.

I think that Gao Yuan Yuan is a very talented actress. She is able to play: spoilt, cheerful, happy, sad, and evil characters while Alyssa can't or so far has not has that range of experience. Maybe it's because I watched Gao Yuan Yuan in, "Prime Minister Di Renjie" before I watched HSDS that I like her so much!! She is truly an amazing actress. And if you haven't seen Prime Minister Di RenJie, you should see it, because Yuan Yuan does not pout all the time!!
