Vicki's voice is really cute and different in that she sings very clearly, and naturally...well, I reckon anyways...
not many people sing naturally nowadays...

Read in the newspaper that Shaolin Soccer's being released in theaters May 7. At least, it is where I live.

Now, I'm pretty sure it was released in US August 15th, so is this another release with more theaters participating or what?

TIME ASIA---Love Hurts, Jade Goddess of Mercy is a mix of blood and tears BY BRYAN WALSH ( Monday, May. 03, 2004)

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://a740.g.akamai.net/f/740/606/1d/image.pathfinder.com/time/asia/magazine/2004/0510/jade.jpg')

COURTESY OF THE 28TH HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
CONFUSED COP: Zhao loves a convicted felon

With her half-thriller, half- tearjerker movie Jade Goddess of Mercy, Ann Hui has become the answer to an unlikely question: "What would you get if you combined Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon) and Jane Campion (The Piano)?" One of Hong Kong's few female filmmakers, Hui is best known for character-driven dramas such as July Rhapsody. But partway through Goddess, she gives in to her basic, box-office instinct to deliver what the people want: lots of gunplay.

The film centers on an idealistic Chinese antidrug cop (Vicky Zhao Wei) in Yunnan province who becomes emotionally entangled with a handsome stranger (Hong Kong's Nicholas Tse, with sideburns at proper idol-length). Tse turns out to be a drug smuggler, and because carnally cavorting with convicted criminals is a no-no in the Public Security Bureau, Goddess abruptly switches gears to an '80s cop-revenge drama, complete with shootouts and children in peril. All that's missing is Mel Gibson and Danny Glover engaging in witty repartee and senseless violence.

Despite plot twists that strain credulity, the film works, thanks mostly to Zhao's soulful performance as a cop torn between love, duty and motherhood. With her elfin stature, Zhao couldn't intimidate a jaywalker, but her convincing portrayal confirms her status as one of China's best actresses. Goddess's real success is its rewarding fusion of mainstream mainland actors with Hong Kong indie vision, pointing the way for future cross-border collaborations. When Zhao and Tse exchange smoldering glances (and occasional gunfire), one country, two systems never looked so good.

awww...Jade Goddess sounds soooo cool! I really really wanna see it! ^^
Too bad HK people are too into commercialism to appreciate an artistic movie like Jade Goddess...I was really hoping it'd do somewhat well at the box office there...

Warriors is being released in the US in August, at the same time as Hero and Infernal Affairs! So it's got a lot of competition!

    Guess what? Guess what?

I don't know about other places in the US, but where I live (somewhere in Texas), they just released Shaolin Soccer yesterday!

And the best part is that it's not dubbed, not edited, and very much in its original form.

    *dances around in glee*

Not that I'm going to watch it seeing as I've already seen it, but hey, it's nice to know they finally got it released.

It's a pity So Close was never released on the silver screen...they do sell the DVD here though!

    Latest news of Vicki:
Vicki and LuYi currently in Harbin, filming their movie. Estiamte time of completion in October or November. They will pair up as lover in the movie. What is it about? No idea, as media haven't get hold of the plot

In recent in interview, from a reporters, who trying to contact Vicki for 2 weeks, Vicki stated "I'm not resitng or taking a break, in fact i silently preparing for my upcoming movies/drama, i don't want to talk to media about it"

A Du: Vicki's acting is very great. When we were filming the MV, she led me more. For example she will tell me how to react to the camera lens. Everybody knows I'm no expert at acting, she's always reminding me which camera to look. Zhao Wei is a big international star, so first time collaborating, definitely will be a little nervous. But after meeting her, think she is very sociable, friendly, frank, simplistic [like things simple], a very great girl. So collaboration was very successful.

Actually my family likes her even more. My mom likes her "HZGG" [Princess Returning Pearl], and even secretly asked me if she cute or not.

**hehe, maybe ADo's should invite Vicki to his home, so his mom can meet her and hudge for herself. There are news, ADo will making appearace in Vicki MV for her new music album--and prehaps a duet with Vicki***

Totally agree, Vicki is a very interesting artist, who quest is to find herself through works and etc. Always, staying truthful, and admit her flaws, and quiet complex person to understand, as many reporters whom interview her for magazine, is amzed by her choice of words, speech, and complexity of her character.

hiya everyone. (haven't been here in a while lol).

anyhow, i'm just curious. This morning, i saw at Vicki's cinple forum that there's a post on Vicki's "potential" bf? some guy name Wang Yu? (i'm soooo behind on everything ehehe)

he-he. I know it's rumors and media, but heck, it's got my attention. So who is this guy btw, does any of you guys know? (bio?)

Wang Yu is NOT a movie star or singer. He is the son of one of China top goverment official. Around 30 of age, study abroad in US, reportedly very talented in music. (this is what report in HK magazine)..
Neither Vicki nor Wang Yu confirm the rumour, both have been denying it, and only stated there nothing more than a platonic friendship b/w them. Chinese media didn't print this news, only HK and TW mdia do.....and this leave me in doubt about the legimate of this news

if you want to know, here is the picture--seem like his [icturet aken my media long long time ago. And with photshop magic, some fan/media create this collage.......

**Regarding Alec is the "guy" for Vicki...i doubt it, at least some what i known, vicki's personality seem to clash with him...vicki whom, doesn't like the crowd, live a simplistic life, not to mention independent, know what she want, and how to get it....and the NOT the type crave for luxurious life style or purchasing brand name stuff. Alec seem to be the opposite of vicki mah
