Hehe, Vicki is in a mini-series (movies) in ancient costume "Chi Bi". If you are referring to a series such as "Huan Zhu Ge Ge" or "Treasure Venture", I think we might be waiting for quite a while. I would like to see her in an ancient series , too. Perhaps, one way to hope for is to petition her to consider a series and pray that she'll accept it!

I'll say the leading actor ought to be Huang Xiao Ming or Takeshi Kaneshiro!!

Default Movie NEWS: Zhao Wei as Hua Mulan

Sina: http://ent.sina.com.cn/m/c/2009-01-15/04372343593.shtml

Reported by Xue Jiao:

The reporter has learned that the mainland version of the movie Hua Mulan will start production in February. It will be directed by Hong Kong director Jingle Ma (Ma Cho Shing). The role of Mulan is expected to be played by Zhao Wei. It appears that the negotiation for Zhao Wei to play Mulan is finalized like icerberg. The general will be played by Chen Kun.

Related news about Hua Mulan:

Variety reports that Hong Kong director Jingle Ma, best known for the Jackie Chan classic martial arts films Drunken Master II and Rumble in the Bronx, as well as Jet Li’s The Legend, confirmed that he will be directing a live-action version of Mulan, the historical project about legendary warrior princess Hua Mulan. The story of Mulan follows a Chinese maiden who secretly goes to war in her elderly father’s place and becomes one of China’s greatest heroes in the process. Disney’s 1998 animated film, directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, was an international success, but according to the report, was only marginally successful in China, with many feeling it should have been done at that time by Asian filmmakers.
Jingle Ma, whose update of the classic "Butterfly Lovers" story has taken nearly $4 million in BO in China so far, confirmed that the project about legendary warrior princess Hua Mulan is due to begin in February but was unable to give any more detail for "contractual reasons". There’s also no word on if the movie will be heavy on martial arts or more traditional swordplay, but with Ma at the helm, expect an action-heavy epic. The budget is $6.45 million.

(
FYI: recently ZW's sister-in-law mentioned that ZW will film another movie soon but could not disclose it due to "contractual reasons" as part of the negotiation.)

Now, everything is not set in stone yet. There was news about this movie back in 2007, where Zhang Ziyi & Michelle Yeoh were rumored as potential leads. Then in October of 2008, there were rumors that Stephanie Sun & Louis Koo will play the leads. However, recently with Zhao Wei's popularity with Red Cliff, and in Japan, the rumors shifted towards Zhao Wei. So we really don't know if it's true or not.

Default Movie News: Hua Mulan

So it seems like the rumors are true for now until Feb when the production will start filming. Zhao Wei will be casted as Hua Mulan alongside with Chen Kun. News about Zhao Wei's participation in Mulan has spread like wildfire on sina and sohu websites. Reporters are still trying to get Jingle Ma and Zhao Wei to confirm but both sides did not respond. I guess we all have to wait until the news conference for this movie, which I believe will take place after Chinese New Year to create more anticipation (as we all know Zhao Wei's style is to keep everything top secret).

Related news:

Preparation for Hua Mulan started back in 2007. Initially, Zhang Ziyi was approached with the script but she turned it down because she wasn't satisfied with it. Over the years the script was revised and edited, but so was the production's choice for the female lead. There were rumors from Michelle Yeoh, Maggie Q, Stephanie Sun, and so on all wanted to play the role of Mulan, with Zhang Ziyi out of the selection pool. Recently with huge rumors indicating that Zhao Wei clinching this role, neitzens show great approval, and preferred Zhao Wei for this role over Zhang Ziyi. In an online poll, Zhao Wei obtained 60% approval while Zhang Ziyi had only 8%. With Zhao Wei's recent success in Red Cliff, playing the heroin tomboy heroine, neitzens find her more suitable.

What I think: although Michelle Yeoh stated that she's very interested in the role of Mulan but because of her age, I don't find her very suitable. I also don't find Maggie Q suitable because her acting is quite weak for such role. And with Zhang Ziyi's recent scandal, neitzens will not be very happy if she represents Hua Mulan who is a historical and iconic figure, although I have no doubt that Zhang Ziyi will probably do great in this role.

Other news:
-Red Cliff 2 is dominating all Box Offices.
-Epic of a Woman receives record breaking ratings.
-Chen Kun hinted that he will collaborate with Zhao Wei in her new music album.

Why does it look like Vicki seems to have this slouchy posture? I think that a reason why her fashion sense seems so unattractive is due to her posture...her outfits would look so much better (even tho they're a little weird) if she would sit up/stand up straighter.

Yay! So excited for Vicki! She's the best!

And yes, I do agree that she slouches. On one hand, I just want to yell at her to straighten up her posture, but on the other hand, I have to admire how she doesn't care about what others think of her and just allows herself to be herself.

.
there are 2 version of Mulan prepared in China.

ZZY's rumored one is different from this jingma's one. That one's director expected to stanley tong, and invested by USA's Weinstein company with other Chinese companies.. But as you said ZZY turned it down they can't confirmed the leading casts till now. Some news said this version still under preparing too. Maggie Q and Michelle Yeoh also rumored w/ this version, not Jingma's version.

In last year, news said Jingma prepare another version of Mulan and Stephanie Sun will be main role in his version. But it seems role goes to vicki now. This time, I think Vicki is confirmed for this film.
