Well, I would assume just like every other weapon, it increases the character's strength/attack power, not sabre skill. For example, I believe wielding the Heavenly Sword doesn't increase your sword skill, right?

Yes it does. His attack stat is higher, means he'll deal more damage. But this is only obvious against very tough opponents. Against flunkies, they just die anyway. His lightness stat will increase as well, so he can move a couple of steps more than usual.

Weapons like Xuan Tie Jian and Tu Long Dao on the other hand decreases your lightness stat (because they are heavy they make you slower) but increases your attack and defense stat.

Just like Xiao Feng and I said above, your attack, defence, and lightness are able to go above 100, but only by equipping weapons and armor.

1. I guess you already found it since you talked about Yi Deng later.
2. If you have talked to FangZhang and he has permitted you to take anything you want (when you have very high virtue) then you will be fine taking it.
3. I don't think you can learn anything from that.
4. I don't think the closed door in Yi Deng's house can be opened.

So, there's nothing more to learn from the 'Shen Huo Ling'.

They did change a lot in the game. In the novel, ZWJ acquires six Shen Huo Lings from three Persian Ming missionaries. The Qian Kun Da Nuo Yi on the sheep skin is derived from the original Shen Huo Ling kunfu, however they are not the same. According to the novel, Shen Huo Ling kunfu is much more evil. The sheep skin is incomplete because the writer of Qian Kun Da Nuo Yi doesn't have enough internal strength to actually perform the 7th level, so he just assumed how it's going to be like, and the ones that ZWJ doesn't get are the parts that the writer assumed wrong.

To open the iron gate, Hu Fei has to have already given you Chuang Wang Sabre. Use this item at the gate.

The Tang poetry is unrelated to the Tu Bi Zi. In order to let him fight you, you have to show him the calligraphy found on Song Shan. Tang poetry is found inside a cave, and it is for acquiring Linked City.

Chuang Wang Sabre is the black sabre that Hu Fei gives you after you show him the missing two pages. Zuo Leng Chang doesn't join you. I had a list of who joins you in the game somewhere in the previous pages.
