The long and short of it is that during the WWII, there were air raids in Japan and two children, a teenage boy and a little girl, were left homeless and orphaned. They moved in with their aunt, who was unkind to them, and eventually they moved out to survive on their own. The boy tried all he could to save his sister, but she died of malnutrition. After she did, the boy just gave up on life.

These two are absolutly the two saddest movies i've seen. When you deal with war and children, it's a water works waiting to happen. These both really got to me because i have two young kids. It made the relation to the pain of a child a lot more real. After watching them, i'd have to go to my kids rooms and check on them to make sure they were o.k.

I have to say along with being two of the saddest movies i've seen, they are both two of the BEST movies i've seen as well. They both gave me a sense that I should do SOMETHING to help prevent such ugly violence in the world. They both can move you very deeply, and leave you with a feeling that you shlould be proactive to prevent war.

    Glory - starring Mathew Broderick.
We had to see it as part of American History class. I remembered crying like there's no tomorrow hehe it was just too sad for me

Forgot to mention Beaches - about 2 friends growing up together.
starring Bette Midler and what's her name, can't remember. Cried everytime I see it.

'Farewell My Concubine' - anything with Leslie Cheung in it is a good bet for depressing movie.

'Grave of the Fireflies' and 'Life is Beautiful' - lots of people mentioned these ones.

One of the saddest moments in a film that I've seen as well as one of the warmest would be the ending of Fallen Angels, when the mute and the agent are riding back to her place on the motorbike. Also when the mute is watching the video of his father.. that was also very sad.

    A walk to remember
Titanic ( WHY ??? OH WHY HE HAVE TO DIE ??? I think for Rose , heart of the ocean is not the blue diamond the the man who rest there )
And last but not least is Lover's Prayer , this is the saddest movie I ever see ( it almost top of the other two up there ) I like Kristen Dunst so when I saw this movie with her in it ( actually the title interested me ) after I watch this I keep the movie but never rewatch it again ( ever ) not that it a bad movie but this is the kind of movie that just to painful to watch , I know I cannot go through it again but keep the movie anyway cause it was good .

don't understand why so many people chose A Walk To Remember. i mean yeah, it's sad - but the storyline is so duh...

i choose Disney's Lion King - the part where Simba keep calling for his father to wake up eventho he's already dead.

    Disney has some sad movies.

    I remember watching Bambi...

I remember this one Chinese movie. There were these siblings whose parents died and the oldest had to send his younger siblings away to live with other people to give them a better life. That was one sad movie. First it was the parents dying, then it was seeing the kids being seperated from their brother and sister's. I forgot the name of it though.

And I though Kung Fu Hustle had some sad moments with the mute girl and such.

As for the person who said Glory, I watched that as well. I didn't find that sad, even though half the class and the teacher were in tears.
