Why can't we be critical about Bosco and this serie? I mean should we just watch everything from TVB without ever scrutinizing their shows and only say that the serie is great and the actors in it are awesome no matter how bad the show or acting is? It is just an opinion from someone it does not ruin the show for you if you like it. And since this is a forum this is the right place to vent your opinion.

    1. Kwai Lan was always shown the good side of Bad Guy Kin. First by his gramdma's account, then she saw that side with her own eyes when she accompanied Bad Guy Kin to take his grandma to the doctor. Bad Guy Kin even thanked her when he asked her to take care of his grandma. These scenes were shown for some reasons. I think Kwai Lan will gradually grow fond of Bad Guy Kin.

    2. Kwai Lan already know Siu Ting(Cerina) loves Fei Hung(Bosco). Being a good 'sister', she won't 'steal' Fei Hung away from Kwai Lan. So, this mean if someone is interested in her (e.g. Bad Guy Kin) she might accept if she has a good impression/feeling about him.

    3. The scriptwriter must leave Fei Hung single for 13th Aunt.

This is all just my speculation. It might not be true at all. I am only up to episode 6 (or 8, I forgot).

I decide to watch this series solely because of Bosco Wong, but I end up liking Bad Guy Kin more. His ambiguous personality is very interesting. I especially enjoy seeing his scenes with his grandma and Kwai Lai.

I found the character of Wong Fei Hung very contradictory. On 1 hand, he is very immature and naive and rather childlike. He gets into trouble often because of his rash personality, and he seems to not know the many of vices in his surrounding world. On the other hand, he sometimes also act very maturely, like when he knows Leung Foon (Sammul) is secretly learning his kungfu, and he just let him, because he thinks it's better for Leung Foon to secretly spy on him that go get into trouble somewhere else. And when Fei Hung lecture someone (a thing he does very often), he sounds so mature.
Even though I like Bosco, I must say that this contradictory personality might most probably be due to Bosco's acting. Bosco said he studied the Kwan Tuck Hing and Jet Li potrayal of Wong Fei Hung because he wants his portrayal of the younger Wong Fei Hung to be a natural progression to the character played by Li and Kwan. He might be trying too hard to follow their potrayal but the scriptwriter might not have written the script with Jet and Kwan's Wong Fei Hung in mind which resulted in the character become contradictory. Well, that my opinion about it.

I agree with what you said about Bosco's character being somewhat ambigious. Sometimes he's too mature and sometimes he's very naive, so it makes his character seem too unbelievable.

I think this serie is ok, it's not good, but it's not bad. I find myself watching the supporting cast more than the main cast. For example, Halina Tam and John Chiang, Winnie Yeung, Power Chan, and Angie Tong. I am glad to see Angie getting some more mature roles instead of the annoying, loud, or flirty girl roles that make her seem very annoying.

Anyway, does anyone know any other versions to this story? I have not watch other versions, so can anyone give a brief summary of these characters in other versions? Thanks

If i remember correctly i saw one version of Wong Fei Hung with Hacken Lee as Leung Foon, and one version where Dicky Cheung is Nga Chaat So. The most noticable from these shows is that Wong Fei Hung is a much older guy who is the master of Leung Foon and Nga Chaat So. So it is kinda strange to see this version of Wong Fei Hung where master and students are all kinda the same age.

Personally, I don't have a pre-conceived notion of what Wong Fei Hung is like. There is more legend/myth to Wong Fei Hung than there are facts. Since childhood I've been exposed to so many versions of Wong Fei Hung (Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Dicky, etc.) and his life that I don't think there is a "true standard" of how WFH should be portrayed.

This is the first time I've seen Bosco Wong in any show. I feel rather neutral about his performance, but then his interpretation of his character is simple and straightforward - it doesn't require highly skilled acting abilities. I personally think Bosco's WFH is boring.

Bad Guy Kin steals more attention from me than any other character. He has done very well IMO. Initially, he was physically the incarnation of Bad Guy Kin, but he managed to play his character with softness and comic relief to show his "human side." Lo Lan, the ultimate "mean woman" in HK media, as his grandmother was simply LOL.

I like the story but the acting is just a little bit ok nvm way too exagerrated! and coincidences dont just happen like that and well the change from french rose to chinese rose (wong fei hung's aunt) is not really with the story itself, btw anyone who care im up to episode 12 i think.

this is series is quite good, soo far i'm on ep 20 soon to be done 5 more eps to go. wooo hooo but too short the theme song for this serie is quite alright, the kung fu action in her is pretty good and funny in a way. Everything in this tvb series is quiet good and decent. Overall, i probably give this series a 3.5/5

Dramas of this genre are nearly all the same. This series offers nothing new, but the fong Sai Yuk series wasn't all that original either. In this kind of drama, the main character is always someone who gets into fights (fight scenes are a must in this kind of dramas) and troubles and thus creating a lot of enemies who refuse to let him go until the final fight. This kind of plot has been used in kungfu movies even before Fong Sai Yuk.

does anyone else think that the actor who portrays Lay Ah Gow looks a lot like the actor who played Ah Song in War and Beauty, the brother of moses? at first when lay ah gow was all beared up i actually though it was the other guy but when he became more formal he looked older but still surprisingly alike!

I finished the series! Overall the ending was pretty good. Except that i thought that they should have mentioned more about Halina's character, which they left out of the ending completely...
