I have not read the book, but this is the wives' appearance in sequence in this 2008 series adaptation:

    Ep8 - Mu Jianping
Ep9 - Fang Yi (1st one asked to be his wife)
    Ep14 - Shuang Er
    Ep17 - Su Quan
    Ep18 - Princess Jian Ning
Ep19 (first half) - Zheng Rou
    Ep19 (last half) - A Ke

XWingSuki: I have to say I dislike Liu Zi (plays Fang Yi) as well by her performance in the series, and also by her real personality in the making, there's just something abt her I don't like. Shu Chang as the princess, did a very good job in the comical scenes! She's hillarious, and it amazed me that she's a pretty quiet/introvert girl in reality. I suggest you to watch this by fast-forwarding Fang Yi's scenes if you really can't stand Liu Zi^^
From watching the making, I speculated Liu Zi doesn't get along so much too, with the other casts. Among the actresses who plays the wives, Liu Yun(Mu Jianping), Li Fei(Zheng Rou) and Cherrie Ying(A Ke) are the closest, they spend filming breaks almost always together, and they're the loudest and noisiest^^ Looks like these 3 are the closest with Huang Xiaoming too. While, Liu Zi and Huang Xiaoming talks to each other like total strangers^^

Thanks. I was wondering where was Princess Jian Ning.
Currently my local TV is up to the episode where Shuang Er appears.

Fang Yi is still okay to me, though I'm wondering how she fell in love with WXB so early (i.e. admitting to missing him after he sent her & MJP home).

Actually, I was wondering too... how come WXB meet the princess for the first time only after 2 years he lived in the palace Was it also like this in the book? Rationally, I think she should be the one who meet WXB the first, among the other wives coz she lives in the palace too.

I also read somewhere that according to the book, Princess Jian Ning is the child of the fake empress? Is this true? Then, does she has the same father as Kang Xi, or is it someone else?

Just finished the drama, I thought it's ok adaption minus lousy editing where some scenes ended abrubtly HXM & Wallace portrayed their characters well, the last eps. where both of them 'spoke thru space' was very touching. I really hope to watch the unedited version though the chances are low......

Okay, I have not posted in awhile so bare with me here. This series does follow the book closely. Not every part is the same, but for the most part nothing really changes. The order of appearance in the wives you listed before is the same in the novel. The way and scene they appeared are also the same. The princess does appear relatively late in the novel. I also agree with you that she should have been shown much early, but they did try to explain in the novel. The royal family is quite large and the palace is even larger. There are many people in the palace that WXB has never met before. The only reason WXB meet Jian Ning at all is because she went looking for the Emperor. Jian Ning is actually the Emperor's favorite sister, so he allow her to see him when she want. The Emperor only hated her and marry her away because he knew her mother kill his mother. Jian Ning in the novel is the daughter of the fake Empress and has no blood relation to Kang Xi. Jian Ning's father should be the fat lover of the fake Empress.

P.S. I do like this series a lots. In my opinion, all the adaptions of the DOMD had something good about. DOMD 84 had the best WXB and KX to date in relationship with each other as well as acting. DOMD 98 is easiest to watch and had the best ending. DOMD 00 has best looking wives. This series clearly had the biggest budget and it shows. The whole production is quite pretty to look at. This series is also the most serious attempt to tell the story of DOMD. This series is not without flaws (bad editing is the biggest flaws), but it is still worth the watch. All the adaptions of DOMD has it strengths and weakness. Keep an open-mind and you might be able to enjoy this series.

P.S.S. The English Sub will be release on July 07.

I thought that scene was quite touching too. It is one of the two scene I thought was quite touching and sum up the relationship between WXB and KX. The other scene is when they show the edict in picture form from KX to WXB and one of the picture blow away. WXB went running after the picture not wanting it to blow away.

Thanks for the info about the other wives..
Fang Yi is the wife played by Theresa Mok in Dicky's version right? Then I can say I don't like Fang Yi much either..
are the other wives from China ? dont really know about Liu Yun, Li Fei or Cherrie Ying. What series did they act in?
not watching anything specific at the moment.

LiarLiar: Thank you!!! That explains everything^^

Really? DOMD00 has the best looking wives? I thought this 2008 series has the best looking wives...

Well... I guess, they are prettier in modern clothes, than they are in ancient clothes

XWingSuki: Yup, Fang Yi was acted by Teresa Mak, in Dicky Cheung's version. All the wives in this 2008 series are acted by Mainland China actresses, except Cherrie Ying. She was born in Taiwan, but she is mostly active in Hongkong entertainment industry.

Liu Yun has acted together with Huang Xiaoming in Da Han Tian Zi 2, so looks like they know each other pretty well:

Li Fei(ZhengRou), Huang Xiaoming, Liu Yun(MuJianping), and Cherrie Ying (A Ke) in a promo:

Huang Xiaoming supported Liu Zi(FangYi), who got cramps coz she's in the water too long (but then the water/bathing scene never made it to the edited version):

Wow!? Where did u get the studio shots? Indeed the wives look stunning pretty than in their ancient costumes... I thought they look ok in the drama, but the hair & costumes made the actresses ugly/older.

Some clips links I'd like to share...

The making of inside the water part 1 - HXM & Cherrie Ying(A Ke):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIxRhfccePw

Apparently they filmed all scenes inside the water in one day, in a big pool. The first one is WXB and A Ke's pond scene in Ep24. The second one is WXB and his 7 wives bathing scene that was totally cut off from the series. In part 1, you can see how close HXM & Cherrie Ying are

The making of inside the water part 2 - HXM & the 7 actresses: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyiE751u4xY

Four of the actresses doesn't know how to swim: Shu Chang(Princess Jian Ning), He Zhuo Yan(Shuang Er), Li Fei(Zheng Rou) and Liu Yun(Mu Jianping). They were filming too long inside the water, some of them got cramps and didn't feel good, and felt cold, some even cried and looked so pale when they got out of the water. The one who got the worst cramps was Liu Zi(Fang Yi), I think. From this clip, I see HXM is very caring abt his co-stars.

Huang Xiaoming and 4 actresses in Royal Tramp guests in a variety show. The talk about the water tragedy came out too: http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/_lw2P8cR1_c/

Shampoo CM, a 5-mins shampoo commercial starring HXM and the 7 wives, too bad the Emperor was acted by another guy, not Wallace^^: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=In3y3l9lcmE

    MV of the making: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws_JITWHQ_I

A music video shows how Huang Xiaoming & Cherrie Ying gets along very well on the set: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzIAC3MAtmc
HXM&Cherrie were rumoured dating during the filming, but Cherrie laughed off the rumour, and HXM stated they are good friends. (FYI, recently Cherrie Ying is openly dating Jordan Chan, Wei Xiao Bao 1998 )

I like him - and the actresses - better in historical attire.

Seeing behind-the-scenes stuff always makes me think that I would never want to be an actor. I've been watching ROCH '06 a lot, and realizing that all the actors have to do all kinds of unpleasant stuff, especially HXM. Everybody gets wet, and rides horses, and gets suspended from wires (which I've heard is very uncomfortable). It looks like the stream HXM kept having to jump into in ROCH was probably freezing cold. That pool for DOMD looks like it might be chilly too.

And for these historical dramas they all have to shave their heads and/or wear enormous wigs. And wear winter clothes when it's hot or summer clothes when it's cold. And work 18-hour days, 7 days a week. Kiss people they don't even know. Pretend to be close to someone you may never see again once the production is completed. No wonder actors are sometimes crazy!

I agree with you, and I'd like to add the never-ending list of the disadvantages of being an actor/actress, with many more stuff, but it'll get more out of topic... so I'll just add something on-topic

Sometimes they work hard for nothing, esp. if they're in ZJZ's productions Days of hard filmings but then it got completely cut off from the series^^ e.g, the water scene, princess Sophia of the Russia arc (not even the name "Sophia" came out at all xD).

No, I don't think she's in this Royal Tramp series at all. Maybe you mistook her with someone who looks like her
