well, a month or so ago, cctv finally revealed the tv programs of 2007, and Da Tang Fu Rong Yuan is one of them.

there were news a couple monthes ago about this policy coming from the top which will impose a limit on the production of period series, and cctv being a govt agency will certainly reduce the # of period series thay buy and broadcast in the coming days ...

remember Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor? this series was purchased by TVB and CTV and broadcasted in HK and TW respectively like ... 3 yrs ago, but it has been on CCTV's waiting list since it was done in 2001, there was saying about political incorrectness and historical inaccuracy that' been holding this series back, so finally finally the director re-edited the series, and it was shceduled to be air this month but at the last min, cctv pulled back this series again, claiming the intimate scenes are too sexy for tv standard, blah blah blah, so this series, invested and produced by cctv themselves in 2001, was aired in HK and TW and was released in dics ioverseas is still on the waiting list ... i don't know what to say, either the director of this series has a real bad "connection" in cctv or cctv is just doing their job, following the rules ...

In the beginning she fell in love with the guard. She didnt want to marry the prince because of the guard. Then after realizing that she had no other option she agreed to marry the prince.

After marrying the prince she accepted him and over times it SEEMED as though she DID love him. (She mentioned him A LOT to other characters and even the King's sister mentioned that YGF and the Prince had a lot of feeligns for each other)

Then somehow in the end she is going to be with the King.. who is her father in law...who should be a pedophile and a rapist for doign that to his son's wife.

Does anyone else but me see that the KING should NOT be liked at all since he pretty much was being so selfish and only wanted to make himself happy? He is a perverted rapist!

DId she ever love the king? or the prince? or did she only have true love for the guard..whom she had the least contact with? So confused!!

He is a perverted rapist, but he was THE king, so they could do anything they want. In the real story of YGF, she was in love with the king (not his son).

i doubt that claim. since there is no possible way anyone could say for certain whom she loved. historicle evidence only says she was bethrothed to the prince, married the king instead, and the uprising of rebels were placed on her doorsteps.

did the king rape her? no one can be certain, that was just a rumor at the time, on the other side of things, it could be tat she seduced the king with her beauty.

did she caused the uprising? depending on how you look at it, at the time, the leader of the rebles claimed to love her and was fighting for her, her brother did cause the decline of the state, the emperor did neglect his duties to spend more time with her and his other concubines, she did favor her family and may have influenced the king into giving her family members position in court.

was the fault hers? according to the members of the court that where against the yeung family, yes, and so she and her brother, who held a very high position, was given the death senctence.

about her loving the king, in ancient time a woman LOVES only her husband, and since she was married to the most powerful man in the country, it would have been a death sentence to behave otherwise.

Initially I watched this series because it looked like a very grand production with all the fancy costumes, backgrounds and props. However, this is one good series with all of the political intrigues.

The fight between the Prime Minister and the heir to the throne is soooo exciting and deep. Sheesh, those people were so calculating and manipulative that it scares me. They plotted and plotted. This is why the Emperor did not choose the 18th Prince to be his heir in the first place.

Everyone in this series, except Yang Gufei, had their own motives to look after even the Emperor. If it was how they lived back in the days, then the emperor's court was not a great place to be. The emperor, himself, had to watch out for his sons since they could rebel against him at any moment.

The actor, who played the emperor was not as good looking as his son, the 18th Prince, but he was very charming. His acting was superb since he conveyed the dignity of an emperor and the carefree of one who is in love so well.

Zhang Tie Lin as the famous poet Li Bai was so annoying. His acting was the same as his other roles. I don't like him as an actor.

I felt sorry for Yang Gufei since it seemed that her family used her to gain status and acceptance. Both of her cousins were the worst. The female even tried to entice the emperor. Can you imagine the feeling of betrayal since Yang Gufei trusted her cousin so very much.

This series is better than the one that FBB acted with Steve Ma. Steve Ma's acting was exaggerated so much that I gave up watching even though I intended to watch it through.

Really good job on this one.

Gosh, after this series I learned to love China historical series. They may not have the best looking cast, but the plots are good, way better than Taiwanese idol dramas.
