They have different actors and actresses and different TV-shows. Both is airing in HongKong but it are different TV-channels anyway.

ATV series is hard to get in my place(because I think they don't distribute in VCD's yet, can't confirm)(should have ask my rental shop).. And beside, they mostly do those ancient costume types.

what does TVB and ATV stand for exactly?

TVB = Television Broadcasts
ATV = Asia Television

For me, they each have their strengths.
TVB is the bigger and more powerful company, so they have the budgets to splash out on more expensive production costs and higher paid artistes.
However, ATV is compact enough for a very believeable chemistry to form between their leading stars and the dedication from their staff because they are closer to each other to the cause often shines through in the scripts and production.

This is not mean that ATV is very very bad but in honestly TVB is better because its series is maybe more interesting. Maybe a series what i have watch from ATV is Wan Tsu Ka Ka [:P I don't know what it is in English] but the series tell about one of china's old century.

oo cool i live in canada and i have sadelite i wonder how do i get those channels i have like vietnamese and american but not tvb or atv but i rent tvb movies from stores

i live in canada too and i have satellite too i guess it depends on which province u live in, because i can watch tvb shows on tv.

Er, TVB because I haven't watched/seen any T.V series on ATV.

TVB is better because they have a larger amount of stars than ATV. TVB also produces more series yearly due to their high budgets. I do not like ATV that much since most of their series are crying ones.

i think that tvb is better because they have more series. i've only seen like 1 or 2 ATV series, and they werent that good.

the only atv series i watched so far is a dream named desire. i really like it a lot. but i am not 100 percent sure it was from atv. but i've watched a lot of tvb series.

TVB, because here in Canada, Fairchild (our main Cantonese channel) airs TVB during the primetime hours. There was a time (like 10 years ago) when they aired ATV during primetime hours but I guess not many people tuned in cuz within a few months, it was all TVB again. We get ATV shows too, but they're usually on weekends and I pretty much never watch them. My loyalty's with TVB.

I chose TVB, mainly because they have more actors and actresses compared to ATV, so they're able to produce more series with different people, unlike ATV series where you can almost see the same old cast in every series.

Both TVB and ATV has their own strong points though.
