that weird because i've read an Australian movie review article on this movie and the reviewer says that House of flying daggers is better than heroe and that its the best ancient drama that Zhang yimou has made

    Anyways i'm gonna see it

i saw this in the theatre at the Toronto International Film Festival last week.

and meh......visually, it looks stunning. amazing big theatre sound too! but the whole "feudal era Infernal Affairs" thing kinda bothered me...

What roles was Anita going to Protray/Play if she hadn't passes away???

Did the Director Dedicate the Movie to her memory?? Esp to her??

    Thanks in Adv..

P.S. Is it all that bad??

Anita would have been playing the role of Nia, the boss of the House of Flying Daggers.

it's not all bad but it is really lacking.

Yes, you can see "dedicated to Anita Mui" when credits begin to roll.

Hmm, is it all that bad? It really depends. Let me just say, it's not my cup of tea. I'm not a fan of CTHD, but at least that film had a more interesting plot. This one? A yawnfest.

Just watched it. Rather underwhelmed. I like CTHD and Hero more.

don't get the current DVD's available for this film. the contrast is set too high and it just doesn't look good. my advice: wait for a better dvd release. we already know that there will be many more DVD releases coming soon.

Yeah, I guess that's one of the problems I had while watching the DVD. Bad English subtitles too.

This movie was shown in singapore ..about 2 mths back (?)...

I only watched it in China on DVD recently It was boring to me....the starting parts were quite exciting but the movie dragged on. did not think that there were much storyline. I agree that a movie is supposed to entertain but when it does not, I will start to look at its scenery etc...this movie was artisticallly quite beautiful only in the beginning. It was quite a boring film.

As compared to Hero, Hero was also slow-moving but overall, it had a better theme. A friend commented that Zhang Ziyi quite poor thing because she was always in a state of sem-undressed thruout the film. Takashi looks good but that could not save the show for me.

    my take,

the good: cinematography, production values, costumes, fight scenes, scenery

the bad: cheesy and unconvincing love story, weak plot, bad lines, funny mandarin accents, jarring plot twists

got to say though...its not to often that I see andy lau being relegated to a semi-bad third lead character role.

    cheers

i kinda thought the pace of the story was oddly slow....especially considering this is a wuxia.....

the best scene i think was when andy lau and zhang zhyi plays the echo game in the brothel after that it kinda went downhill.....and drag along.....

there is nothing original about the plot, this is Infernal Affairs all over again. See the *Andy Lau* connection. Good and bad character in a reverse situation.

Why don't they just make a proper movie about the real and infamous flying dagger itself LXH

Let's just say that someone's doing an extremely great job making himself or herself rather unpopular here.

Dunno about y'all, but I WAS thrown off by the plot twists.

**Unlike some punk here, I'll put spoiler warnings**

Whoa! Everything was just a ploy to capture Kaneshiro!

Andy and Zhang Zi Yi were ex-lovers!

    Andy iz a bastard!

The North American theatrical release is coming soon. sometime in December.
good thing i've already seen it during the Toronto Filmfest last month. so i don't have to be so "turned off" by the awful DVD that's released recently.

I just saw this movie. It would have been great had there been no dialogue.

    ****CONTAINS SPOILERS****

The cinematography was stunning and the music was pretty. Zhang Zi Yi almost looked like a ghost at times. Was it just me or did it seem to take forever for Xiao Mei to die?
Takeshi looked magnificent on a horse. I kept thinking to myself that if he were an animal, he'd make a gallant stallion.
Even though the plot wasn't that great (especially in the romance department), I can't say it was a predictable film. For one thing, I didn't see Andy's true identity coming at all.
I wish they would have gone more into who the real leader of the House of Flying Daggers sect was and how the old leader was killed.
