Default Zhang Yimou's "House of FLying Daggers"

Hi, i just heard about this film, which was shown at the Cannes film festival. Its stars takashi Kaneshiro, Andy lau and Zhan Ziyi. The overall response to the film seems to be positive, some even said that its better than hero and Zhang Yimou's best film to date.
So i have a few questions to ask.

    1. Has it been released in Asia yet?

    2. When will it be released?

    3. Is Anita mui in it?

    4. Can someone give me a quick synopsis of the film?

Thanx for the answers (in advance lol)

    Heres some pic's.

    1) No. It's premiere is in Cannes.
    2) No idea. Hopefully soon
    3) No.
    4) Not really, but I know it's some sort of love triangle or something, and Zhang Zi Yi's blind. Don't wanna know too much about the movie to ruin my fun. Hah.

Anyone have any information about the story of the movie?

    PLOT

The film is set in A.D. 859, when the once-prosperous Tang dynasty was torn by unrest. Two police captains, Leo (Andy Lau) and Jin (Takeshi Kaneshiro), have been assigned to pry out the leader of the Flying Daggers, the most prominent of the anti-government rebel groups. Acting on a tip, Jin goes undercover to Peony Pavilion, a house of pleasure where a suspect is meant to be working.

Posing as "Wind," a young libertine, Jin asks the owner, Madam Yee (Song Dandan), to bring on her newest girl, a blind dancer called Mei (Zhang Ziyi). Mei entertains him with a number performed to a female orchestra of pipa players, after which Jin attempts to publicly rape her.

Mei's honor is saved by Leo, who shows up as if on cue and berates his colleague for ungentlemanly behavior. After Jin has been hauled away to sober up, Leo takes his place at the table of honor and --- in a classic test of mutual skills, as well as her claim to blindness --- challenges Mei to the Echo Game. This involves Leo bouncing a bean off a circle of drums and Mei identifying the drums with the flowing sleeves of her garment in an improvised dance number. Though Mei proves his match even when he tries a final trick with the beans, Leo bests her in a subsequent encounter, through sensory overload.

With Mei under lock and key, and told she'll be tortured to reveal info, Leo and Jin cook up a scheme to get her to lead them to the head of the group unawares. Posing as a sympathizer to her cause, Jin busts Mei out of prison, wins her trust and accompanies her on a journey through forests and landscapes to the Flying Daggers' headquarters, secretly followed by Leo and his men. En route, however, Jin and Mei start falling for each other.

The film is dedicated to the memory of actress-singer Anita Mui, who was to have had a role in the film, but died of cancer at the end of last year.

Looks good. It's a shame that the HK film industry makes so few good wuxia movies nowdays.

I don't see any wuxia from HK now. I think Miramax is going to purchase copyrights to this film. I hope it's as good as it sounds.

I swear this film is from the China film industry... ?

good to see such an original plot, with good actors.

somehow, i think takeshi looks a bit too nice, innocent looking for zhang ziyi... but these actors and actresses are good, hope it lives up to expectations.

Why the title switched off from "the Lovers" to "House of flying daggers"??

It will be out in August in Japan.

Sony Pictures already bought the copyrights in April...

The film will be released as "Lovers" only in the Japanese market.

Shi Mian Mai Fu will have its grand premier on July 10th in Beijing and will be released nationwide in China on July 16th.

Has anybody watch the show yet??
The reviews were crap, I was thinking of watching the show. But.... there were so many bad reviews that I am having doubts about spending money just to see Takeshi Kaneshiro in a bad movie.

    So, how??

    Thanks for merging.

I am trying to follow my heart.... my heart is telling me that I am probably not going to like the show but watch it anyway cos Takeshi Kaneshiro is in it.

Hee, so asking around if anybody has watched the show already and how was it??

Besides I am not a big fan of Zhang Ziyi, she was only so-so in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, can't see why everybody think she is so great.

I watched Zhang Yimou's Hero, and seriously, it was the most unentertaining show I had ever watched. Sure the scenery was great, the theme was meaningful, the fighting scenes were impressive and all. But movies to me, are suppose to entertain, not bore me to tears.
