Lightbulb San Guo Yan Yi (Romance of the Three Kingdoms) 2007

9/06: Apparently Zhang Ji Zhong really wants to remake the famous classic next year. He hopes to again be able to work with actors he's worked with before. For instance, he wants Li Ya Peng as Sun Quan. Rumor also has it that Hu Jun is interested in starring as Guan Yu. What do you guys think about these possibilities? Yeah, I'm still trying to get over the thought of LYP as Sun Quan too?!?!

Update: ZJZ will film his version (SGZ) late next year or maybe in 2008 while Chen Jia Lin will begin filming the new SGYY next year. Casting for ZJZ's version is still under speculation while CJL's version has confirmed Jiang Wen as Cao Cao and Chen Bao Guo as Sima Yi.

Yes it was an all time classic.
One of the 4 great series of China ever.

    The list includes the original

    - Hong Lou Meng
    - The Water Margins
    - Romance of the Three Kingdoms

Frankly I'm astonished at his great ambition. I hope he can really carry it off with his fav cast of actors and actresses. ROTTK is really a classic Chinese epic so he must do a really good job and make sure his budget is properly planned and provided.

Wait a minute, I thought ZJZ already decided to hold off on San Guo Yan Yi because he wanted to produce Journey to the West next year. Isn't that right?

Doesn't the guy have any original ideas? Not that re-makes don't require creativity or anything...but still. Or have remakes always been his specialty?

According to the two relatively recent articles below, he's planning to film both of them next year.

On a side note, Hu Mei will be directing the new Hong Lou Meng. This is good news; she did a great job with Yong Zheng Wang Chao and Han Wu Da Di.

Okay, the man is becoming greedy. Is he sure he can handle both simultaneously and still produce high quality stuff? Look at his last project, ROCH 2006. What a failure in the editing part. He said something about that was due to not having enough time. Hmmmm....

    Zunjing de SPCNET.TV members,

I guess we are seriously going to have a re-make of "San Quo Yan Yi!" Since "San Quo Yan Yi" is one of the four great Chinese literature books, I am surprised that we did not have more re-makes, like all of Jin Yong's novels. I assumed that since the first one is so good, nobody thought a re-make can even come close to matching it. Personally, if the re-makes are good, then I am always ready for them, even when they basically have the same storyline! So, I am really looking forward to seeing this one.

Yeah, I also think that having two major projects in one year can be too much for a director to handle. I really don't like the motto, "quantity over quality." I hope that people would share the same view since it is obvious that "quality" is better!

Whether he's sure is one thing, but whether he will actually do a good job is another. The previous SGYY series took 4 years to make so I hope this one will keep him occupied until at least 2008. ZJZ also said that he will try to respect history more in this remake as it will be a combination of both San Guo Yan Yi and San Guo Zhi.
