This series is *supposedly* Xi Yuan Lu (or I suppose Witness to a Prosecution) III since it stars Bobby, but he plays an official named Di Ren Jie in here and not Song Ci. Anyway, my main reason for watching this series is pretty clear: Shen Xiao Hai. Need I say more? Oh yeah, and of course the genre too...

Although not as dignified as his big entrance in Hua Gu Zhi, Tao Ge Ge (yup, another Tao Ge Ge in this one as well) is rather cute and charming, no?

From the episode that I skimmed (mainly to get these caps), his character right now reminds me a lot of Liang Ping Wen in <<Wu Yan Nu>> before his anger and frustration fueled his ultimate self destruction. That is, he is charismatic, slightly innocent, a wee bit oblivious, and incredibly adorable. Although LPW never had such a big sword.

And he’s also really nice looking in the scenes I have seen thus far (best efforts of the costume be damned) but I thought I could just leave that obvious fact out. Since he is in no danger of turning evil, he just needs to lay off the angst and self pity and this might be an eminently watchable series. Although he does have two pretty girls (the one on the left has already made an entrance and displayed her aggressive fangirl tendencies) to himself, so that might help a bit.

Finally, what is up with the opening montage? Specifically, why didn't they have enough money to hire someone to sing the opening song? And why are there so many cut aways to roaring flames and bursts of vivid light? Am I supposed to be scared? Impressed? Expectantly perched at the edge of my seat? Well, as long as I get my Tao Ge Ge, I guess it doesn’t really matter how lousy the opening is.

Oh, and one last thing - where have I seen the woman playing Wu ZeTian before? Was she in a version of Xiao Ao Jiang Hu as Dong Fang Bu Bai, or am I just making that up?

I definitely agree that Xiao Hai looks very luscious despite the costume, but I don't really like whoever's doing his voice in this series. My opinion about the two girls matched up with him still hasn't changed: Wang Ling appeared in the first episode with the likes of an annoying kid sister and Liu Zi looks like his aunt from pics that I've seen.

The opening montage is similar to that of DGSD 2003. It's always cool to have an actor or actress from the actual series singing one of the themesongs, so I really wish they could have given Xiao Hai a shot at that. I've heard that he's a decent singer.

The actress who plays Wu Zetian is Chen Sha Li. She probably looks familiar to you because you've seen her in "Da Han Tian Zi" as the controlling tai huang tai hou.

So...when do you plan on actually watching this series?

I've watched up to episode 9 of this series now and quite frankly, it's not that great and definitely doesn't deserve to be sold as "Xi Yuan Lu III". The only reason I'm going to try and finish watching it is because of Shen Xiao Hai.

Di Ren Jie's wife looks mature, but her character is very annoying. Liu Zi actually looks younger on screen than in pics, so perhaps she and Xiao Hai will have some decent chemistry together as love interests later on in the series.

I started a thread for it here awhile back. I never bothered to finish the series though, 'cause I just didn't like it very much. It's not really anything like WtaP 1 and 2 and I think they just nicknamed it WtaP 3 due to the popularity of 1 and 2 + Bobby (who doesn't even play Song Ci, but rather Di Ren Jie in here).
