Love this series! I am watching this series just because of Lu Yi and Li Bing Bing, but Damian Lau is funny too.

I watched the first couple of eps in the passed weekend. Truth is I had no intention to watch it in the first place because I felt that it would not be my cup of tea. But 'human's intentions can't surpass fate'. I took my mom to the store and the owner boasted that it was really good so she rented it. I didn't even stop her just because there’s a part in the depth of my soul hoping that it would be really good. After all, I like FBB.

The first thing that bothered me was the costume design. FBB and Anthony both harbored this fetish for fur hats (that I thought was inappropriate) since they stuck out like sore thumbs comparing to the rest of the cast. At first when I saw pics I thought she was a Mongolian princess reason why she wore these fur hats. But it seemed they just liked to wear them on random occasions and not even for practical purposes. Anyways, I wasn't impressed with the costume designs. In fact I was disturbed at how unattractive they were.

Second was the pairing. I'm talking about Anthony and FBB. The idea of having Anthony and FBB being prospective lovers and being the couple that 'grew up together' just seemed not very fitting. Exactly how old apart were they? That was what I've been trying to figure out all along. What was their history? FBB mentioned briefly once and it was not even the whole picture. For the first couple of eps, FBB played the prop. She did no more than saying unnecessary lines. Occasionally FBB and Anthony threw each other loving gazes that sent cold shiver down my spine just because how apparent their age gap was (or maybe it wasn’t supposed be that big of an age gap in the story. He just looked old.)

The third thing was the motive. So she did all that just so he would remember her forever. (I think that was it if I understand it correctly.) Yeah I was supposed to buy this story about this deep love from FBB to Anthony so much that she did all these things (before she killed herself) just so Anthony could remember her forever. It was a deep love that I had to use my imagination to see where it was derived from. Maybe I was just missing something while wondering about the fur hats thing. After FFB died, I let the story ran its course while I daydreamed about the beautiful man I met at a supermarket. It was that interesting.

This series is on the level of badness of both versions of the 'four detectives', one starring Ren Quan and FBB and the other starring Cha in Pyo and some others. They're the kind of series that have really good cast, some really bad costume designs and very bad plot. For the first arc, let me jump to conclusion and say not recommended.

it is a pretty interetesting series with LBB in it as well as FBB......i like it the best with LBB in it....however i dont like the ending but i guess in ancients stories heroes dont all ended up good ^_^

stay away from this series at all cost. It sucked so much!!! FBB and Anthony looked terrible together, horrendus costumes, etc...

haha, i couldn't stop laughing while reading the comments from above, yeah, the costume is inappropriate, the script is loosely written, and the pairing of anthony and fbb is ... unconvincing, but nobody should be shocked, being a series directed by wong jing, we should have got used to his wackiness, after all, his wu xia series are known for attractive cast but weak stories!

i wasn't too bothered by the pairing of anthony and fbb, i'd saw the pics released before the series was out, so i guess i was prepared, but i like anthony, he's a terrific actor, so i couldn't bring myself to dislike him ... but i agree, the script is not interest, i think most people watch it simply because the actors they like were in it. i ordered part 1 because i like fbb, but i stopped when her character died, and my most memorable scene happened to be the part when her character killed edison by twisting his neck, yikes ... she was a bloody murderer, and she was good at it, her stare could melt ice!

Why did dong xuan got chosen or chose to live? I saw bits and pieces of ending and saw that the guy that likes her look a little bit upset that she chose to live and it seem that she was being selfish, but I doubt that is the reason why she decided to live.

I want to watch this mainly because Dong Xuan is in it...I've never actually seen Lu Yi or Edison act (but I've heard lots about them).

I found it on yesasia...it turns out I was searching for the wrong title; instead of "The Eight Heroes", I was looking for "Ba Da Hao Xia". Stupid Serynsatina.
